Front matter
II Bat now that the Role of our own has stepped in Ayurveda breath the air of confidence for its opliſt in the land of its birth where it is regretſally annoticed these daye by its own countrymen. When a country becomes free, it aims at aniversal progrers in various fields, for the welfare and aplift of the nation. At this stage a science that is concerned with the health of the teeming million sbould be resuscitated and it is quite natural that Ayar. veda hopes for ita uplift at the hands of our present patriotic administratore. At a time when even the Western people have began evincing disdain towards Allopatby because of its ever changiog theories and crael experimentation on the inpocent, and when they are gradually incliged towards Ayurveda, realislog its pristioe glory, universality and unflinchiognens of principles, it becomes incumbant on us now to give due importance to the problem of its progress-glory and aplift. We hope that this will thus be useful to our administrators .. and countrymen who are interested io the subject, for making concentrated efforts to serve this sacred scriptare, Gondal 23-11-52 Manager Ratashala Aoshadhashram 1 Dee (2) OUTLINE SKETCH of MAHATMA GANDHI DHANYANTARI NAGAR (Shree Mahatma Gandhi Rashtriya Memorial Trast" iavited suggestions from the public as regards the use of monoy collected for the Memorial. My phore, though appearing circumscribed, is one which can achioTo the welfare of the whole country. According to my plan, "Mahatma Gandhi Dhanvantar! Nagar" must be established at Rajkot in Saurashtra, the land of birth of Mabatma Gandhiji. On 27th January, 1915 Panyashlok Gandhiji was presented by my Institution the Ragashala Aushad basbrace with an address, whoreio, laipi. red by feeling of honour for his conspicuous services for India ia Africa, the epithet of Mahatma was first conferred on him by me, I was the first to offer him this pablio address in the Assembly of five thougand local citisens when be had first come to Gondal after his retard from Africa. The words of blessings. wblob be bad then uttered for my Ipatilation and uplift of Ayaryoda bare been many times printed with that Address of mine. To quoto them: "Vaidyaraj is a profound soholar of Sanskrit and Ayurveda. The Rasashala established by him 18 serving the people through Ayurveda. The literature published by Rasashala 18 very useful to the public. I used to read it in Africa. I am much pleased with words which such a scholar has used for me in the address. I shall, for ever cherish them. I have a great regard for Ayurvede. Thte IS 10 ancient Indton Scienco to keep up health of crores of men livias lo lacs of Indian villages.
I recommend overy man to shape and live his life on the basis of , Ayurveda. I offer my blessings to the Rasasbala Aushadhasbrom and vaidysraj. May they be ablo to render still more glorious service to Ayurveda. As a result of this blessing, ** my Lastitation has prospered and attained today so honoured place among ibo sobolars nod edacational and other ipalitates of the world. Considering these words #blob Mahatma jl led spoken for Ayurveda thirty four years before and on bis lending in India, 1 thiok, the best memorial - for bim of long-standing and pational Interest must be tho uplift of Ayurveda and its aļlied Bhestras. This work can be saccessfully accomplished by the establishment of Blahatma Gandhi Dhanvantari Nagar in Saurashtra. The principal parls of Mahatma Gandhi Dhastantri Negar, besides sub-divisional 09ee, will be 1. Ayurveda Arya Upachar Shastra and siddha Vanaspati Shastra 2. Arya Rasayan Shastra and Deb Siddht. 8. Uttar Prayogahala ( Laboratory ) for Dbatuvad (Alohemy ), Ratna shastra and Loh Siddhi. 4. Poorva Prayogshala for Collection and Praotioal researoh of Sanskrit Mad usaripts on all subjeots. Io the heart of Mahatama Gandhi Dhanyanlari Nagar, there will be erooted e Dhanyadlari temple, whore-in God Shree Dhaoyantari. will bo installed with duo rites. His worship will be gone through daily according to Vedic precopts. People from India and all other countries of the World will bare free and fall accers for Darshanom, Pojanam and Archer Dam of this deity who will bless Bharatyaishe in every respect. In the various branches of this Nagar, there will be kept images of Babalaa Gandhi, depicting different periods of his life. The Dhanyzotri Nagar will require for its establishment a sito of fiye lacs of rupees. To mako it however a foll-fledged Instilatlov, - fifly lacs of sapeca will have to be spent brand by, Another sapal amount of filty lecs should be disbursed apart for this Nagar, which, when in full working order in a year, will bring an income of lacs of rupees. . The description of the principal parts of the Dbanyantari Nagar is as below: 1. Ayurveda Arya Upachar Shastra and Siddha Vadaspti Shastra. Some of the Indian Schulato of Allopathy hayo no knowledge or experience of Ayurveda. Receiving only Eogliol education and caltaro, il they tay or opine Adylbing against Ayurveda, if io improper and 8 udsocoplable. Allopathy has come into existence since two hundred years. Inspite if the Government support to it, its pripciples are upslable. Palients may be experimented upon today according to come principles of sllopatby, bat a bort lima alter, some scholars or research workers declare thoka principles to te wrong and barmſal. Compared with these, tbo principles of Ayurveda, decided opon by ancient sages, and arcetics, thousands of - years before, remain zoolooged for all times and are aniformly applicable to all peoplo living in any part of the world. There are buodreds of Ayurvedic printed books ood wonderful hand written opprinted Sambitus Og soch rabjecis ag Rasayan Sastra, Vanaspati Sbastra, Dbaluvad Sabstra, Ratna Shastra, Sargers, Anatomy, etc. Experiments outlined in these books and piss, are 10 eBay, sccoesible and acceptable to all that rich and poor people in towns and villages can avail themelves of them according to their fitness, Deeds and means. Those of the allopathio doctors in India and abroad ach as Dr. Wilson, Ds. George Clarke, Dr. wise, Dr. Warden, Dr. Tribhovandas, Dr. Pranjivardas Mehta of Jamanager and others w bo bare studied Ayarzeda, express great praise for it. Ayurveda bog received to support from tho pajamount power since toyen hundred years, Daring fivo boodred years of Muslim role, Unani aystem, obtained state patronage bod encouragement and moder two boodred years of Britisb rale, fall help was offered to Allopatby. The British destroyed Indian industries with an aim to enrich tbeir couplry. Poreding the same policy, they imported into India allopathic medicines worth crores, mannfactored in England and adversely affected the minds the bodies, tas financial condition and religions instincts of our people. Despite this, Ayurveda has remained alivesolely on the support of rolere, loving old traditions and the people. With the establislıment of our Natiopal Government since two years, I feel sure that Ayarteda will be fally encouraged. It will by tbis davelop itself to such an extent as to remoto in a few years cor dependence abroad for medicines and will also giro great benefit to otber peoples of the world. Oot of forly croros of people in Iodia, fire to seven crore have been asing allopathic drage under the British rule. The oibers live on Ayurveda apd avail themrelreg of its benefit, through Ayurvedic pharmacies, thousands of more or less learped Vaidyas, txperienced old persene teslding in different villages and forest dwellers who kaow weil' atlo aliſeren" skrty vzt with jiringles irr wol' wurde that inspite of the bundred years' pajAmount role of the British in Iodia, twenty eight crores of its people have kept themselves away from foreiga medicines. Some rapporters of allopathy in our patioal government wish to place allopathic doctor within the reach of all the villages of India and try to lead the Government for it, but they will not be able → can to accomplish their desire even in two hundred years to come; whereas Ayurveda will do so sucresslolly within only ten years. II. Arya Rasayan Shastra and Den siddht: Tbe preceptors of Arya Rarayan Shastra hayo made many diacoveries in their field and formulated definite principles after centaries of labour. Yo road in the Mahabharat, tho Rounyada, tho Paradis, the History and Jain 'Shastras that people oan live bealtby for hundreds of years, cara diopaneg incarable and can make their bodies strong, loog-lived and robust on the basis of these discoveries and prisciples. The contioully of this Rasayan Shastra as from preocptors to papils hrs boen broken sidoe deveo bundred years. Hiace we do not eee its ose or benefit today. People knowing how to preparo gach siddha Rasayanas pro fex and persons to get there prepared are blso wanting. In days gone by when that continuity was obsorted sod stato patronago was given to Restyao Sbastras, persons with auch Siddhies were existing and thoy. Dzed to come forward. In this Resayan Sbastra, there are described bundreds of medicines and various Siddha and Divya Ansbadbies containing an admixture of mercury, other metall, Upadbalos, Ratnas, Uperstaas etc. ule wereof can cure tuberculosis, asthos, diabetes, cancer, paralysis, Appoodicitis, typhoid, leprosy, plagao and other diseases regarded incurable. This department will manufacture zooh medicines to give their benefit to the people. With the establishment of Dhanyaotari Nagar, this Raayen Shastra and its Prayogas can be Availed of to tho great development of our indigenoos berbs and plants together with the Samanyaya of s}l Divya Siddha Lasangbadbles, being · wasted away at Dominal prices. III. Uttar Prayogshala (Laboratory) for Dhatavad (Alchemy). . Rata& Shastra and Loh siddhi. This Shastra can free the cauptry from disease and poverty. With its 'aid, Sidabi can be had to turn mercary and other metals into gold. Men koowing this Sbastra or its scholars had no encouragement onder foreign role. On the contrary, they bed to live in fear. But if oor Dational government will give consideration to this subject, Iodia can be a Tory riob, alrodg and healtby country within few years in line with othorcountries of tho world by developing this Shastra. In the famous Birls Templo at New Delhi, there is one vergo co Dhalayad Shastra: सिद्धे रसे करिष्येऽई निरिधगदं जगत् ।। " Yith the accomplishment of Rasa, I shall make the world free from-poverty and distage." Most of the works on Dbalorad Sbaztra ara in the form of mes, and they deal with eighteen Badekaras of Paradº ro 1 7 (Bercury), Bubbakshlt Parad and hundreds of other Prayogas-Siddha Kalka prepared on their basis can turn mercury and other metals inlo gold and silver. There are in Todis Rasayan 8bestris, who know thia secret, science and ils Prayogas but Ihey do not come oat for clear of Government, Bat if an Institution like the Dhenventari Nagar comes into existence, such scholars can be fopod out and lake advantage of.. These Siddhi Rasayans contributing to Lab Siddhi are really for 2se for Deb Siddbi. To test them only, ihry are used for Loh Siddht. This Siddha Kalka kerpe men beallby, opables them to live for bandereds of years and coolers on them power to go and come from Swarga Lok and Chan dra Lok, To assure you of the trath of Dhatayad, I give belor an instance that bad taken placa foar or five years before: My friend Pandit Krishna Pal Shastri of Gurakh Rasayan Shala'át Bejores bad accomplished this Ras Siddhl und Lob Siddhi, 'I bad soon its Prayoga in person and in the presencs of many Vaidyas, when I had 8010 to Lahore as the President of All India Ayurvedic Congress. Then Jaran was gone ibrough So Farna Grans in Babbuksbit Parad, tbe mercory ate op the gold with no increase in weight. With the help of bis Siddha Kalka, he had tbas tarded mercury into gold. Peadit Krishna Pal Shastri had demnostrated this experiment of converting weroa:y into gold in 1940 1941 at Hardwar and Bila boase Now Dolbi ie the presence of Sbeth Shri Jugal Elsbore Birla, Shri Sitaramji Khemka--Secretary Delhi Burla Mill, Shri Amrtial V. Thakkar-obiel Secretary of All India Harijan Soyak Sangb, Isle Shri Mabadox Desai-Mabatma Gandbiji's Bocsotary, Goswami Shri Ganesh Datiji of Labore, Obief Engineer Mr. Wilson, Shri Neogi Hari and others, wbou is thirty eight lbs. of mercary be put ono tola of bis Siddba Kalks and giving fire turned it into gold withio fov hours. This gold fetcbed & value of Rs. 15,0001 according to rate thea existing. After good tests with acids etc. tbat gold was found to be quite pore. Papdit Krishna Pal Shastri had apdergone constant oopuiderablo labour for five to six years from 1935 to 1940 and had attained this Siddhi from Arya Dhatavad Shastra at great expenso. The mapasaripts apd Prayoga Grantbe, on whose basis he had obtained this Siddht, are there in the Rasashala oss. Gradth Bhandar but we have found ao time to research them thruagh Prayoga. It is reported that this Penditji bad died in A. D. 1943 wbile coming from Bepares to Delhi, bat rumour goes too of his being taken away underground. At that lino, var jo Eárope was going on and gold was required. Looking to tbese circumstances, God kaow how fur true is the popular beltef of his being kidnapped Away. It God faroar, our country, Del. op Dbatavad and its Prayogus in the B Rozasbala's collection of apoiont 'mag. will be made use of in the Dhanya. -atri Nogar. Saocess can be hoped in this dirrotion within about two years, scoording as the facilily of moan: be bad, though Poodit Krisbus Pal Sherma had taken about fire to six years. If these Prayoges will be takea up and this Panditji is bov alive freo, he will come - forward to assiet as in this work and fulfil his tow. There are many wonderful Prayogus in this Dhadratri Nages on diamonds, rubies, pearls kod other jewels which too will be esperienced in the laboratory of the Dhanvantari Nagar. IV Collection and aotire prsotical ressedroh of msa; Thousands of Sanskrit manuscripts on yrioni subjects lia uoprotected at present in ths nook and corner of our country. I do not opine that this Dhanvantari Nagar may be a Provincial Institation and of private ownership. I 'bave:planned it: in a way that it can be a pablic or Goveramcot institation, ita floancial atpects to be managed by a Committec of Scholars of Ayarveda and Rasayan Shastra, appolated by the Government Or Gandhi Smarak Trost. It will be an All-India lattitution and a Seat Central in the spbere of Ayurveda, Arya Rarayan Sha. stra, Vadaspati Sbastra and their retearch Tostitates etc. achieving the good of the people of cach proviaces of ladla. My alm in writing that letter is tbat if this Dhanvantari Nagi'to established, I am willing to offer it the services of my Institution, the Ratashala Aurbadhashram and of 17,000 maa. on 40 10 42 different objccts in tbc Saraıwati Grapth Bhandar of the Rarashala valued at 17 to 18 Ince of ropeer without any hope of tward. 1 0 Gaodhiji had visited my Rarasbala in 1915 A. D. when I had pretented him an Addrees using for him the Epithet of MAHATMA for the first time. The words of high praisa and regard for Ayurveda wbich be had then attered in reply, bre many times printed in the Rasasbala literature and also quoted in the letter addressed to you. What has actuated me to send you this plan of Dhanvantari Nagar is that Ayarveda has been my life-breath for 40 years and an ardent desire that Mabatmaji's words, spoken thirty four years before for the aplift of Ayorveda, may today be realised in effect, especially when a sovereign independent democratic government has been established in our country. I have expressed a desire for the establishment of Mabatma Gandhi Dhanvantari Nagar at Rajkot under a reason * that Saurashtra is the Land of Mahatmaji's birth and Rajkot is ite centre where he had passed his life from infancy to his departore for Africa. Thie is also the province, where fall facilities cap be had for obtaining herbal, mineral, anlmal and other drags and raw materials, required by Ayorveda from forest of Giraar, Gir, Barda and other places. I have hence to request that you will go through my letter of the 12th Jaly 1949 agais, carelally consider it and let me kaow your views on the plan therein to oblige mc. Mabaraj Shri at Once worked out 82 Ayurvedic THE Scheme on the subject as below and RASABHALA AUSHAD BASHRAM, sent to Hon'ble the Health Minister.] Gondal Dated 7th April, 1950 HON'BLE SHRIMATI RAJKUMARI SORI AMRITKAUR BAIEN, Mlinister for Health, The Government of Iodis, NEW DELII I. Respectfal blessioga: Oar Iostitation Tae RASASHALA AUSNADNASIRAN bas been serving the people of our couotry sicce forty years with its scientific Ayarvedic medicines sod literalare. It has also continged to BOITE since then the roral popaleta in of lodia by gipiog them the benefit of Vaidyas, prepared or trained by our Iostitation in tho systematic stody of Ayurveda. Now when democracy bas been established in India, the Government is thinking of a plan to placa medical relief and ciontifio treatment of diseases withia the reach of twenty five crores of people living in Iadian villages, but allapathy or allopathic doctors alone would not be . successful to accomplish this purpose. Bence coosideration is being given overywhere to give to these paople the benefit also of Agarveda. Io purstance of this plao, we have recast the carricalom of Ayurvedic stady in oor Iostitate and beg to send herewith a copy of the prospectas of our Ayurveda Vidyalaya. Its other copy is sent by a separate, bookpost, We sball be very gratefal if you will go through it and kindiy favour as with your valued suggestions, opinion, and coostractive gaidaace, wbich our lostitution will warmly follow. 2. Modern allopathic treatmeot, which is prohibitively expeasive and beyond the reach of middle-class people, is obtained mostly in towns. Rarely 5 P. C: of the village popolation cao avail themselves of it. This goes to show that out of 36 crores of Indiao popalationg 25 crores of village folk have, been depending on Asurveds, sioce bandreds of years, for their protection of bealth and freedom from ordioary diseases. They bave bees 11 getting this relief from persons who have imbibed medical knop ledge traditionally or from practitioners scientifically traine ander learded Vaidyas. Each provincial Goveroment is beac thinking to prepare Vaidya, by starting Ayarveda Vidyalaya withio'its limits and impartiog them therein in the regional lang aage the tcientific kaowledge of Ayurveda, for upkeep of gooi health and treatment of common diseases. If this work be comme aced immediately, the village peoplec ao have protection agai nst diseases easily and in short time. It will also relieve to: great extent the beavy financial burden on the Central and Provincial Governments for medical aid, 3. To consclidate their role in India, the British had aimed to keep as dependent on foreign medicines, as for other thiage to benefit their motherland, they a ed to import into our coantry medicines worth crores of rapees from England. With that view, they alforded no encouragement to Ayarveda, which hat a bright and glorious past, which has protected the people irom all diseases since centuries astretch and made them very robot ar d long.lived. Framing it as a lux, they maintained 2 policy wbich fomented discord between doctors and Vaidyas, creating too in the former a bedre of disregard for Ayorveda. Their object way accomplished and Ayorveda rece v d no opportanity for development. They cool; not however succeed in lessening the feeling of people of ladia, especially the rural ones, for Ayurveda. Not only this, but they could not also propagate among these people so great a use of loreign medicinex, as they had wished. Under reven hundred years of Muslim and British rale. Agarveda could make no progress. It has yet remained alive and able to serve, for the reason that crores of people in oor country have cherished it in their hearts with religioas saoctity. 4. The attitade of our democratic Government seems to be much in fasoor of allopathic doctors. Its wish seems to be to provide allopathic doctors, medicioes and treatment 10 every village of our country. If this is true, the missiop is boood to fail, for considering the most complicated problems which coofroat the Governments at present and entail beavy expenses, / 12 our Governments cannot at present afford to provide medical relief to all villages. When the present problems be solved in a few years, and the Government be placed in round financial position, it will yet be doubtfal whether the Government will be able to tackle satisfactorily tbis question of medical help in the cext twenty five years, throogh allopatblc doctors and mediciner. Alien British Goveromeot conld not do abis work within hundred and fifty years of its rale. This question becomes more complex for our democratic Government when circamitances are so adve- TIC Hence to protect the peo le of India, so diverse in caste, religion, modes of living, loja and climate, from diseases, to safeguard their health and to care the diseases which they may be soffering from, Ayurvedic medicines and knowledge of Ayor. veda are solely essential. It is to the beoefit of the Government that the Indiaas mostly love scientific Ayarvedic medicines. 5. 95 P. C. of the patients euffer from ordinary discases, which can be cored by Vaidyas with simple vegetable, berbal and mineral drogi obtzioable from riverside, mount in or a jangle near each village, provided they be trained in the knowledge and ose cf this prodncis in their provincial language - a task not difficult. If thir be done, hage anonot of money spent abroad for purchase of medicines will remain in our country and the cost to the Government to provide modical rellel to our cvery village will be considerably less. Looking to the present financial problems of the Government and those which may be imagiacd to arise ia fatore, it should at oncc decide and adopt a policy to cocodrage Ayurveda and to start in cach province Ayarveda Vidyalayas for preparing GRAMYA CHIKITSAKAS in prosiocial languages. It should alio extcod proper help and cacooragement to lostitations like oors, which are working in this direction. This is the ooly way to provide mcdical help in villages easily and at less coit. The people too will be satisfied thereby, for they love Ayarveda since primeval times and will obtain from it the secd: of Nataral life. Adrveda being cocodrag:d a way will be pived for its research and development. You know Revered Mahatma Gandhiji's strong belief that the people in villages should be saved from the Epare of foreign medicines by giving them the knowledge to cure their diseases with simple herba, growing by the side of rivers, stre: mlets or jungles. You can read in the prospectos (page 11th) the words uttered by Panya blok Gandhiji in reply to an Address of welcome preeeated to him by my Tastitation on 27th fancary, 1915. They express his regard for Agarveda and his desire to enccorage it, believing that it was solely for the welfare of the villagers. Ayurveda's glory is 50 yast, bright and enuobling that hoore, duye or month, sro rather fer to describe it. The rulers and the ruled in India also know it fally well. Ayurveda is a Science as old as the Vedas, of which the people hayo atailed themselves since thousands of years. In the past, Ayurveda bus been mado ase of and its prestige bas been greately established la Europe and America by prominent scholars and doctors like Hippocrates, Nenberger, llorool, Plato, Colebrooke. Pockock, Dr. FiseMonior- Williams, Bhatt Max Moller, and other, Eron modern scholars from the west srbo koor well Sanskrit and otber sciences, 21 Shri Mariano Beativo of Ilaly, Dr. Belloni Fillippi of Florence, Dr. E. Lloyd Aboyaralan of Ceylon, Dr. Emito De Lims of Colombis, Dr. Dimas F. Arsli of Washington, U. 6. A. and « bont of other allopathic doctori, evisce a high lovo sad regard for Agarrods. Their services to propagate tbe case of Ayurveda are really conceadable. They uro all very closely associated with the Gondel 11:13bals, Will the Indian Government or oor Hon'ble Ilealth Miplster be kind to know what these eminent westerner, Hilog to-day, cplso lor Agartada?
17 95 P. O. of the people in India, Nepal, Ceylon, Barma and Siam avail themselves of Ayurveda even today, keep up their health, apd get rid of their diseases. A porvey of the British administration for tyo bundred years in India will load our popular leaders to know that the people in the past used to live for more years and kept themselves free from diseases in a better way then they do to-day. Nowadays, the diregges bare grestely increased. Ner ones are yet coming into being. The bodies of the people havo FTOWD weak, devoid of vitality uod dicesse-ridder. The western method of treatment for these direuses is being found by the people yery costly. On tbe other band, Ayurveda has been interwoven with the very life of the people in India, just like religion. Under thousand years of foreiga role, it has received Do opportunity for progress; yet it has remained as the very breath of our people. It will really be considered an ill lack of Bbarat, if our democratio government will not look to this stets of things. The riversides, atresmlets and forests of seren Jacs of towns and villages in India, wblch aboard in varied herbal, animal and mineral drugs are verily the Aashadbblagas in themselves. They can be take advantage of by the government only if it alforda encouragement to Ayurveda. The Indians have been toking their benefit through Yaldyas. By doing so, not odly will the people keep themselves free from diseases, but crores of topees being drained away abroad for purchase of foreiga medicines like the flow of the Gango, will also be 1ayed. The British has used allopathy as a means to perpetrate their role in Iodia sod to take away enormous amounts of money to Eoglaod. It was their policy deliberate to patronize Allopatby, disregarding, Ayurveda If oor popular government will contiaue tho me policy, Ayarteda will reqairo como noro years for its oplift but Bbarat will surely witness its downfall or degeneration. Through this meeting at Reikot and similar others beld lo many towns and villages of Saprashtra and Gojarat, tbo Vaidyas and the people eunstee or quest oor Hon'ble the Prime Minister and Jooblo the Health Minister that in the proposed conference of all the Elealth Nipisters at Now Delbi, Abey will be kind to extend s really great sopport to Apertoda, Suri Bhavaneshwari Pith, GONDAL Kathiawad lodia. श्रीचरणतीर्थः॥
18 14 [?] An Article on Dhatuvad in the "Sunday Times" of Madras (24-9-50) A Now&-Article in “The Sunday-Times" of Madras on Resoarabes in Dhatuyad (Alchemy) being carried on in Shr! Bburadeshwari Research Institute, Gondal under the super- Tigion and guidance of SHRI CHARAN TIRTEA Maharaj Man who could turn mercury into gold: Publio demonstration in Blrik A0088. Salo proceeds donated to charity. Atomic research has revealed that it is possible to convert mercury into gold by sabjectiog it to atomic bombardment. Bat the gold mado by this way is aot worth the trouble because of its bigh cost. Bat in India, there is a science known s. Rasa Vada by which buso metale can bo made into gold at no cost at all. The science is not lost but a decade ago a Pandit had actoally demonstrated at Birls House hor, mercary could bo made into gold. The Pandit, who performed this miracle, is now no more, but the secrets of this science aro available to any research student at the Rasasbala ia Gondal. This is what Shil S. V. X Bharatly cays is Rase Vada, a amali bookles pablished by Ayorpeda Blogas, N. V. Sastry, Agurvedio Tostitats, Boogalors 8., LONG LOST SOIENOE The science of Rack Vaads or metallic alcheti, ho writer, was long lost to og balag soppressed during the middle ages as & criminal act connected with counterfoiting metailio coin, aod bullion corredoy. Nára Vaade being the common pimo for metallic alchemi and payohio alchemi wo get a pomber of bocks with the same or similar panes dealing with each of the pobjects. For instance, Rasa Naloakara is ag socient tosocal on metallic alchemi while Rara Rulau Pradeepa is a manual of psycbio alelezni. Similarly, Ebay& Prakash is a mangsl on behaviourism, drobalarkywetullic chemistry scd Agarredio medicino. 10 GOLD FROM MERCURY In 1947 it was reported in the April isste of the Ayurveda Maba Samimalada Patrika, the official organ of the All India Ayorvedio Congrees, that Pandit Krisboapal Shastry of Beosz09. demonstrated before the late Mabadey Desai, the Secretary of Mahatma Gandhi, the converting of mercary into gold. For a second time, he demonstrated in 1947 ia the Birla House in the presence of Sait Jagal Kishor Birla "and a number of othar prominent people by converting 36 pounds of metallic mercary into gold which was, after all critical evaluation, auctioned and cold away for Rs. 75 000 and the amount was given over on the spot in obarity. Thus the manufacture of gold from mercury is no longer & myth or fiction and that it is a solid fact, was proved to the hilt. DEMONSTRATION we were In September last year, informed by His Holiness Shree Charana Tortba Mabaraj that be was promised by Pandit Krishnapal Shastry that be would participate in the organisation of a scientifio laboratary in the R sagbala Ausbadbasbrane Goodal and that the organisation which #89 fairly in progress, had to be stopped due to the disappearance of the Penditji after the demoustration in the Birla House. On enquiry we were informed by Birls that Pandit Krishnapal Shustry became & Swarga-wasi. On forthsr enquiry, we learnt from Kayiraj Pratap Sinba, the principal of the Ayurvedic College, Bevares Hinda University, that after the demise of Pandit Krishanpal Sbastry, bis brother was also not seen and no information was available about bis whereaboots. Ye were at tbe same time told that the demonstration of manufacture of gold from wescorF WAS & fact and that he had witnessed the demonstration NEED FOR REVIVAL 1 We are now afraid that the wbole of the investigation experience and lesrping of this extremely useful art and science was lost to as especially when we are economically depressed at the present time. It is only # scant consolation to learn that the whole of the manuscripts from wbich t'de 'late Panditji kazed wh yustisert the wt 278 ! * wailable in the Ragasbala in Gondal and that His Holiness Streo Charana Tortos Mabaraj is well acquainted with the process adopted by the Panditji. It Temsids to be seen how much of the lost art coald now be revived without the illastrious Krishnapal Shastry.
20 Instead of these sporadio private and individaal efforts, it would be appropriate, eren expedient, if the Benares Hiado Vaiversity, itselt takes up the mattor and accommodates the experiments on Dbatu Vaads and sllied sciences, inviting, if necessary, experts like His Holiness Shri Che- In: Tirtha Maberaj nud others, creating scholarships and fellowships io Ayurveda and Indian sciences. ARTIFICIAL GEMS At the same time, it will be the sacred daty of the present and past presidents of All India Ayurvedic Congrats to start investigations into tha matter and organing support and co-operation for the scheme of the Boientifio laboratory proposed and perhaps in progress in the Ragashals Aushad bashram in Gondal, It will be very interesting to learn that the Roddbi Kbanda Vadi Khanda since pablished by tho Rabaabala Goodal. cautaids a poober of Tery valosblo prescriptions for not only manufacturing gold from lead and coppor, but also the manufacture of artificial gems like the diamond, Tuby, the sappbyre, the topus, the emerald etc. - Sunday Times 22-10-50 Shri Cherantirta Maharaj Shrio's reply and supplementary romarka on the ortiolo on Dhatavad pobliobod by the Saoday Times of Madras in ile isade of 24th September 1950. Bharat) The Rasashala Aushadhashram GONDAL Dt. 7-10-50. Re:-Article on Dhatavad as appeared in the Sunday Times of 24-9-50 Dear brother, Ashirvadas: 1. I am very glad to receive from a friend of mine at Madras a clipping of the Sonday Timer, dated 24-9-50. If persons like you evincing interest in our ancient fore come forward to en:odrage ag, we can be very helpfal to our cooptry by carrying on research in such secret sciences. But our present government is solely after Allopathy. It will be inıpır:d to support the research of secret miraculous things from our ancient Shastras, only when the God has no destined the welfare of our country. 2. This seience of Dhatuvad has not been lost in early times, in middle ages or even to-day. The fact is that the Brahmia Sadhas well-versed in it do not come forward in the poblic. Under the role of the British, they had thought that their mysterious lore will be utilised to benefit an alien country. 1o-day, even though they are a free nation, they see that the religion, places of Worship, learned Brahmios and cows are treated with dirdain. So if they give the benefit of their knowledge to the State, they think that the former ones will meet with greater harassment. So high-souled periods, possessing Each Siddhi of Dhatuvad, do not wish to give its benefit to the State. 3. The success of this Siddhi also depends upon religion and Mantra Shastras along with Prayogas. It has been Bo ordained by the Scriptures and the guiding preceptor that a person endowed with this Suvarna Siddhi sboald not its wealth in the leait for himself or his family tretibers. {t has been prescribed to be ared for the protection and nourishment of Brahmios knowing Vedas, cows, religion, scriptores, religions places etc. Io time af grave emergency, it can also be utilised for the good of the couatry.
22 4. In Shree Bhuvaneshwari Granth Bhapdar of the Rasz , sbala Aushadhasbram, there, are 17,000 mass, on 42 different subjects. Of these 500 manoscripts are on Agarveda and about 75 on Dhatuvad, Of these, we have got poblisbed the two- Raddhi Kband-Vadi Khand and Rasa Prakash Sudhakar. It is not true that Raba Ratnakar, Rasa Ratna Pradeep and Bhav Prakash are books on Dhatuvad-Rasa Vaad. Rasa Ratnakar's author is Shri Paravati Patra Nityanath. It is in five parts-Kbaadas, three of which deal with the treatment of diseases and are printed in Bombay. Its fourth and the fifth parts-Mantra Khand and Ruddhi Khand bave both been pablished by us. Nagarjuna's Rasa Ratnakar is yet anprinted. 5. We have got many books and mst, on Whatavad. The following are the chief among them. . 1. Rasa Kachba Patam, 8. Suvarna Tantra 2. Sapta Dhatu Kalpa 9. Vaidya Bhaskaroday 10. Ratna Patal (Rodrayamal) 11. Dhata Kaotok (Nityanand) 3. Parad Kalpa 12. Nagarjon's Rasa Ratnakar 4. Gandbak Kalpa 13. Parsharana Taotran. 5. Gorakshnathi Paddbati 14. Ragahridayam (Govind 6. Ramadan Swami Dhatavad Bbagatpad ) 7. Jain Gorji Dhatavad 15. Rasaratoakar Nityanath Siddha Dhatuvad is also embodied in many mo. of Tantra sach as Dattatraya Tantra, Uddish Tantra, Harme. khla Tantra etc. and those of Jainism. These 800 mss.. on Tantra and 1200 m9. on Jainism are here with os. 6. On 27-5-1941, on Three Occasions in the month of Jyeshtha of Samvat 1998, my friend Shri Krishnapal Sha. stri bad converted mercury into gold in the Bıria hodie, New Delhi in the presence of Shri Amritlal Thakkar Bapa of Harijan Sevak Sangb, Goswami Shri Ganesh Datta, Sitaramji Kbenka, Chief Engineer Wilson, Shri Birla Sbeth, Viyogi Hari and others. Ten months after in the month of Chaitra, Samvat 1999, March 1942 he bad for a second time converted 38 lbs. of mercury into gold at Risbikesh. Late Shri Mabadev Desai, Goswami Ganesh Datt, Shri Jugal Kishor Birla and others were present this time to witness it. The goldsmiths tested this gold 23 were . with acids and other methods and it was found-qaite pare Auctioned on the spot, it fetched 75,000 R. The third time, in December 1942, when I was the President of the All India Ayarvedic Congress at Lahore, he had converted 10 tolas of mercary into gold in my presence, when 25 other Vaidyas were also with me. This gold was sold there and then. MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE 7. It is a matter of deep regret that the State, Mabatma Gandbiji or Sheth Jogla Kishor Birla coold not afford satety or protection to Pandit Krishoapal Shastri, though he had openly demonstrated his miraculous powers. I doubt whether Pandit Shree Krishnapal Sbastri and his brother might not have been kidnapped away by come unknown persons, for the European pyar was in progress they and there were rumoors that the British behind the kidoapping af they were sorely in need of gold. Ooe British Engineer, Wilsop bad seen that Prayoga with his own eyes and was hence convinced that in time of distress, such men can be useful to his country. Otherwige, how could both the brothers disappear at a time, while travelling from Benares to Delbi! Pandit Shree Krishnapal is said to bave been died, bat no one knows where bis dead body was borot. Until this be ascertained, the dabt expressed above stands. Really, doubt sprrounds his death, much like that of Shree Sabbagh Chandra Bose. ANOTHER INSTANCE FROM MADRAS 8. Filteen years before, ope Saagasi from Shringeri Mati, named Amrotaband bad met me and told that one Brahmin from Madras or an adjoining place used to convert mercory into gold. Bat that Brahmin had disappeared all of a sadden. Thereafter his wife and children used to get from some one in the Goveroment boase Rs. 100/-every month, which were stopped after 10 years, Pandit Krishnapal too may have suffered the same fate.* 9. At Labore, Pandit Kriebnapal bad promised me." I am sure that the Gondal Ragathala and Shri Bhuvaneshwari Pith. will accomplish the welfare and uplift of the country, religion, temples and scriptores. So I shall confide this PRAYOGA to you.
24 I cannot atilise even a pie from this PRAYOGA for my personal use or for my family. I shall help the Rasasbala with my koow. ledge and it cao maintain me and my femaily." I had agreed to all that Shri Krishnapalji had proposed, but six months, after, I heard of his disappearance. In 1936, Krishnapal Shastri had come to Gondal and had copied out some of my mss. on DHATUVAD, before he left, io 1940 when he had attained this Siddhi, he used to say that he had accomplished it with the belp my mss. aod the grace of a preceptor he bad met ja the Himalayas. 10 We have not yet established PRAYOGA SHALA for this PRAYOGA. We wish to do so in near future. In the begianiog, hapdreds of PRAYOGAS to be performed will require a considerable expense. To test and perform these one by one, various YANTRAS will bave to be made on the basis of Shastras. A preliminary expense of aboot two lacs of Rg. will have to be made for this. Experienced scholars, well-versed in Rasayan Shastra, will have to be kept to belp me. For all this, a monthly expense of five to six thousand ropees will bave to be incarred, If the Government or sealthy persons andertake to provide for such expense, we hope to accomplish tbat SIDDHI within two or three years. If this happens, mss. on DHATUVAD sbich we have collected at an expense of one lac of rapcer will bear frait and many other experiments aot performed by Krlabnapal Shastry can also be gone through. PRECEIOUS STONES 11. Ratoa Shastra is oor dorivalled wonderfal scicoce. To gire aa ipatance: if 5 to 10 tolas of any of ibe pore diamonds, fabies, cmeraids, or pearls, taken in a powdered form and rendcred into Dravas arc beated by a special process, they will constitute one large unit of stoac of about equal weight. After crystallinsing it this single jewel will bring 5 to 10 lack of sopeet, whereas in a pordered for it would have fetched about 5 to 10 tbon and Rs. 12 Sach PRAYOGS are there in the mai. with us. We bave not yet cypericoced them. To do so, books on this scicoce 28 1 will first be required and through stady will bave to be made to understand their meanings. YANTRAS' and 'apparatus for team will have to be made. Quitting aside all other works, one shoulå then devote oneself wbole-heartedly day and night to sach PRAYOGAS. Then alone can saccess be obtained in dae 'time. We are in a position to do all this. 13. 1o Europe and America, scholars carryiog on such redeaches are given all facilities by the State, bich also maintains their family. They pass their whole life in their retearch, with state help. They have not got books like our scriptores, They have to do every thing with their own imagination or intelligeace. Compared with them we are much better off as we have 'got Shastras bequeathed to us by our ancestors. Bat oor, ralers and leaders, who have imbibed western coltare, have so far showa go faith in them. 14 I had talked to my friend, His laté Highneſs Maharaja Shri Sir Gangasiohji Bahadar of Bikaner aboat Pandit Kriskaapal' Shastri'a PRAYOGA. He knew that Shastras pertaining to it:were la the Gondal Rarasbala. So to establish a PRA YOGA SHALA for Boch research be had promised to give me 50 lacs of rapeer, vast aite of land and use of mss. in his state. As such I bad in my presidential addrera at Labore proclaimed my desire to. establish Gangasinh Dhanvantari Nagar. Its sketch riap wag printed in thodrands of copies which were distributed there. With the Maharaja's death, the scheme however remained aplallfiled. In memory of Gandhiji, Suggested plan; New scheme. is. Since a year, I have entered into correspondence svith Baba Rajendraprasadji, President, the "Gandhi Memorial Food » with a wish to establish Mahatma Gandhi Dhanvantari Nagar at Rajiłoc, wdere Gamuthi dau gruwir o ant shirt te marilain as his native place. If this Dbanvantari Nagár be established, work for PRAYOGAS on DHATUVAD can be carried os there along with other researches in Ayarveda. Io Rajkot, the Rasasbala own land with balldiag measariag 40,000 sq. yder valged at font lács of ropees. I have thought to give over this land to 26 5 1 the Sagrashtra Goverament or the Central Government, at a certain fixed price for the establishment of Mabatma Gandhi Dhanvantari Nagar. I bad a talk in this matter with the Primo Minister of Saurashtra Shri Dhebarbhai who had been on a visit to the Rabashala on 30-9-50. 16 Even if the the PRAYOGA becomes succesful,' I do pot with to have any pertonal gain from it. I maintain roguelf and my family from the Rarasbala. I want to strive for this PRAYOGA only after I receive an astorance that the PRAYOGA,If socce cafal' will be used for the good and opliſt of the country, the religion, temples, Brahmins and cows. Such is the injapction to me from my preceptor of this Science. Bat for, thit, I do not wish. to devote my life, intellect and knowledge to this PRAYOGA, even though teo lacs of rupees be placed in my hands for it. I am confident that if I work after it for two or three years, Bhagarati Bhuvaneshri will give me socceu ia it. I do 'oot want to say at prerent whether this is destined or 17. All you evince faith in our ancient Shastras, champion and encourage their cause, I have been actuated to address thit leogthy letter to you. Otherwise, I do not write about it to anyone. This work cannot be done with Baccess by Univeralty laboratories or stadenla getting scholanhips; for the basis of thin retearch is on mss. pertaining to it. It is doabtful whether at any other place has rach collection of mus. and books on this objects at the Bhuvanesbwari Grantha Bhandar of the Goodal Rasatbála hai. If Mahatma Gandhi Dhanvantari Nagar be established, these books and mass will be taken op in via there poder my sopervision or I shall use them when a PRAYOGA SHALA will be established in the Rasashala al meads and facilities will permit. Some of these mis. I bad got from Swami Shri Acbyatabaadji, ia Samvat 1962, when I had stayed with him on·mooot Girnar for plee months. Within the next, forty five yean, their stock bas greately increared. This is a recret work to be done la secret. It can bo aaccessfally accomplished by him only who laboon firmly alone, in private, sided by God's . or not.

My dear Rajyaidys. Close to a year and four months have passed since I attended the ALL INDIA AYURVEDIO CONGRESS sessions at Delhi. This attendance was towards the end of my stay in Iodia. At that time I received & most poloome invitation extended on your behalf to visit you at your location in Kathiwar, I considered the invitation so honour and hoped to have the pleasure of meeting you personally knowing you to be one of the brightest lights in the world of Ayurveda and philosophy of the Rishis, I was also while at Kathiapar to visit the Maharaja of Nayanagar whose Maharanee has done much in support of Vedio coltare and whom my wife was anxious to meet and visit with Dr. Mehta whom I met a number of times and whose new translation of Charka intrested me yery moch. All these plans were based on our inability to secure passage back to Enrape, as shipping vao crowded and my wife dore not like to lly, soddenly, out of the clear sky I received a wire from the Director of the Lloyd Triestino that a fina cabin was to be bad in a sbort time. All my previons plans were cancelled and I had to leave. I frankly felt that I missed mocb by not meeting you, knowing of yoar status in the world of lesroing. The reason for my coming to Jodis this time as I have been thero before as to complete the work which I started many years ago when I became inelerested in Ayarveda. I had long and exteoded correspondence with your succesor as President of the All INDIA AYURVEDIO CONGRESS Rajvaidy. Manindra Kamar aod was supposed to take linal examinations of Hardwar for an Ayurvedic degree. It is trao that I bayo agother degree bat I wanted a higber ODO and worked hard to get it. Unfortanstely while I was on the way to India he pazsed away. I was & skock to me and I probably would baro turned back if it pero aot for meeting my old friend Dr. Lakshmipathi and then knowing that Pandit Shira Sharma, Dr. Mehta, Dr. Srin yasa Morti and others whomI know, I decided to attend the Coogross. I have done it oot like an oulaidor attending overy lectura (hatlog porno ono to translato for me) esting with to 510 aad so on.
I keenly felt the absence of sooh lights of tho past as Pandit Malaviya, Mahamahopadhyaya Gazazath Sea and others when I dare kaowa in the past. Well, Panditji that is the story of Ayurveda nad to my failare to see you. Now as to the way of this letter. I am beginning to think of another trip, not in a week or a month bot witoin the foreseeable lature probably in 1951 and wish to get in touch with you go that you may extend the invitation to yisit you. I am do trouble as I eat Indian food apd while a Oolonel in the Army learned to sleep wborever there lo zoom. Thus Gondal which has do European Hotel will not be a deterent to my visit. Walter Seth Kipolr, Ph.D., M.D., Ayarvedacharya, 300, Carteret Place, 29th Aogost 1951 ORANGE, N. J., (U. S. A.) My dear learned friend, I acknowledge with deep thaoks your letter of 28-6-51 received by me on 2-7-51 in die tias. Immediately the coples of the same were dispatched to H. H. the Mabar ja Sadeb, H. H. Mabaraoi Saheb and Dr. Mehta at Jamnagar, to that they may be familiar with the coatents of your letter. During the Delbi Session of the Ayurvedic Congress, on coming to know that you bad been there to participate, I had directed my son, with some literature of my Institation, to javite you to visit my Institation at Goodal. It was a doty lacambeat apo me to jovite and bonour you, a great icholar and admirer of Agarveda. Bat according as stated ia the Ictter, I learn that you had to basten op for America and you coald pot acccde to my iovitation. It was very interesting to me 1 30 : to know about you through my, friend and the ex-President of Agarvedic Conference, Rajvaidya Manindrakumar Makerjee. His sad demise hai inflicted a heavy loss opon Ayurveda and friends * like you. Io the Delhi Session amongst the assemblage of the Vaidyas, and bogoured guests, yoors was a note-worthy attraction.' I feel bighly pleased to learn that you intend to visit India again in 1952, bat at the same time I have a doubt raised in me, whether the recent gradual evolation of warlike atomspbére in Iodia, Pakistan, Europe, America and Asia and its probable horrible ontborat during three years to come will make it possia ble for you to visit Iodia or not. Still however when you will Virit Ragashala and Jamnagar in 1952. I shall be much pleased to welcome you. Here, I have the good lack to estertain as my guests many of my friends from Earope and America. Similarly, I poold consider it a matter of high regard and pride for myself, my lostitation and the whole of Kathiawar, when a scholar, a great admirer of Ayurveda and an American gentleman like you will give us by your visit the good luck to honour and entertain yoo. You are right to soppose that there is no European Hotel In Gondal. Be it or not, we have in oar Rasaabala Aushadha. I shram a well equipped Guest-boase to receive all our foreiga friends and well-wishers. Your company will give as more joy and comfort as you are a vegetarian and habituated to accomodate yourself to all circumstances, la lodia 95 percent of the Brabnin, and Vaishyas of Gojarat, Kathia war, Maharashtra and Bombay Presidency, are vegetarlacs. Similarly our family is strictly vegetarian from ancient times through heritage. We take milk, ghee, batter, and honey as animal food. Besides these, we are ordained by religion not to touch evep ang edible animal substance. Hence, we shall entertain you here with many varleties of vegetarien food, when you will be oar gaest. I invite yoor wife also to accompany you in the visit to our place. His Highness the Maharaja Saheb, Hai Higbacus tho Mabarani Saheb and Dr. Mehta will also be cbccilal by yoor vlalt and yon will be picard by our company, 81 I thank you for your high expressions of praise and ad. miration for me. I read is them nothing but the magnanimity of your heart. On account of the general attitude towards the Weat and its imitation, daring the British rule ia the past, and eminent congreas leaders in the prelent administration evincing the tame sort of attitade, we the researchere in the field of Ayurveda and otber ancient Aryap scriptores have to face many obstacles through want of patronage and we progress very tlowly in the works at band and those intended. Hence, I do not believe I have been taccessful enough to reach the atage you have so kiodly expressed about me. Still however the good wishes of brothers like you and transformation in the attitude of our rolers in patronising Aryan scriptures will certainly make oor ways smooth in the service of the scriptores, Blenringe to you, your wife and all the members of the family, ॥ॐतत्सद ॥ Yogis sincerely, masuratst: 11 (SHRI CHARAN TIRTHA MAHARAJ) Copsplate of the Dominican Republic, Orange State, Sabsequent Letter N. There is but one criticism I vonia offer of the Maharaja' Saheb and that is I wish he would redace in weight which would give him so many more years of dieful life. 36 13. Rajvaidya M. K. Makerjee's loss' in the field of Aydrveda is too heavy to be borne and irreparable. We selected him as the President of the All India Ayarvedic Congress at Rajkot in 1943, Thercafter he came on scene more conspicuously and served the cadee of Ayurveda with ardent zeal for six to seven ycars and alas, the bright star was extinguished in so tender an age! Who could have imagined this dismal fate in the farthest future creo While he way at Hardwar both of os bad chal.ed cat a long plan for the progress and development of Sanskrit and Ayarveda. We had proposed to begin the work at my place-40 thousands yds. of laod-at Rajkot. I had undertaken to collect an amount of 20 lace of rapees for the project. Bat, my friend, it was oot destined and I lost a zealous young fricod in him. 14. I appreciate your feelings in bot being bardeosome to friends, but India is a copotry that evinces godly and divine love towards guests. "starugatt 121" Consider your guest to be your God is oat ancred aphorism. It is interwoven in the homely lives and duties of Indiaos. Only the people ander the impression of English culture and so-called forward persons imitating the west, keeç the business view point in forefront, in treatiog their guests. But only ten percent of Indians come into this fold, while the rest of people still follow the ancient coltare and traditions and never manifcst a little bit of self-interest or apathy in treating the honoored and respected guests. It is trpe that they would receive them to the best of their means and manners. It is never in the natarc or good coodact of we, Indians, to look with disgast at oor gacets, be hc our relative, friend, Indian, Eurcpean, Muslim, Christizo, gay, even an oatcast. On the contrary to consider it to bca sin to bave soch ſcalings. We also thus receive and welcome all car goests most cordially and manifest oor feelings of love and sincerely to the bait of our ability and thus win their hearts Recently I had the honour to welcome my 'friend Reverend father Santa Pao of St. Xavier's College, Bombay. He took delight in oor homely Indian dishes and inspite of sitting arrangement for dining at the table, fpecially made for him, he squatted down with as on yccden ccato on floor. Wc have got a stylish geest-house here, evitable to our European and all other friends. 15. Titles, honour, degrees, power, position, statas etc. are all irr:portant for practical parposes in wordly affairs only. They are all secondary in view of close friendship. We most respect, regard and honour western scholars like you establishing and adding to the glory of Ayurveda in your countries, la this sense you all are no less than our brothers, nay, members of the family, 16. Troe, that India is fortaoate enough to remain out of the conflict that seems to be shaping op the world of to-day. Bat when the world will be divided into two vater-tigat comp3. rtments to carry odt the conflict, it would be impossible for India to be noaffected, because the Britishers bave left the coagtry ia sacá a merciless condition and so precarious a predicament bas been created by them, that willingly or not, thous having reins of administration of the country in their hands will have to be driven into the depth of the dismal conflict. Partition of ladia is a terror-stricken and disastroas cveat is the life of India. It broogbt out with its birth untold calamities on crores of persons and their properties worth bundreds oi crores, India had to manage, with tears in eges, for one crore of Hindos to re-habilitate. There helpless relogees bad been forced with aching hearts and souriog eyes to leave their dear, cstabllshed birth places of long residence, with properties of thousands of rupees and were rcdaced to penary, paoperira or poverty. To crores of people get in Pakistan are lcadios a lilc of misery and slavery, whereas, 4 crores of Muslims are completely safe and bappy in India. They arc as free and #-curs as tbc Hiodos herc apd enjoy copol rights and privelege! Not only that bat they hold high rank, in the administration of the codatry. For instance, out of eight ministers at the centre there are two Moslims. Many otheri oscopy the high posts of Governors in the provioces. There Ministers are bandling important port folios like tborc of Education, Railway, Trade, Transport, Telegraph, Broadcapting etc.. On thc ccatrory there is not a single Hindo la Pakistan, holding toch a bigb post.
38 17. Supposing the war becomes a possibility in near fatore it would result from the destructive British-sponsored police of Pakistan, and problem of Kaobmir, 80 ignominiously created by them. The policy of Anglo-American block is to allow Pakistan half the portion of Kashmir, to establish their military bates, to erect aerodromes and to obatract the Rassian path of coniog over to Asia. On the boundary of Kashmir there are the Ctida, Iibct and Rossla. They will also in return make reactionary preparations in those countries on the opposite side. Thus flame of fire will barst oat from these circumstances, sooner or later.' For the epscing five years the world will be ensnared in a big turmoil. And thereafter, I foreeee, that the world will see the days of peace and prosperity. 18. Thank yco, for the kindgers of proposing a scholastic honour for me. I have also noted with pleasare your strong propensity for the knowledge of Ayorveds. It gives me great delight to know that you are an expert in bateral medicine, you treat patients on that line and you evince an interest in and stady of the problems of oriental medicine, * It is known to mo that in Enrope there is a growiDE &version against Earopean medicines, since last many yesre; pot only that, but by my experience of 45 seara in the field of Ayurveda and consequently treatiog lace of patients from many countries of Africa, Asia, America and principally of Indis, I have come to form an idea that despite their att- Tactive, charming and decorative packing, people of the whole world sve gradually developing disdain towards European Dedicides, The Teagon for this is the immaturity of the Allopathic system of medicines, instability and proneness to change in the facts and traths and the general popular belief that they 418 merely is the stage of experimentation on laman life. As is admitted by pre-eminent research workers, of Europe and America, in the field of Ayurveda, the antiqnity of Ayurveda dates back with and standa parallel to the period of the four Vedag-the Rig, Yajar, Saman and Atharvan. According to the principles based on our ancient Jyotisha Shastra (Astrology ) we believe the Vedas to be existing more than one Lao of years back. Even the European scholars admit their axistence as far back as 20,000 years ago. Sioca last fifty years Western scholars have boon increasingly attracted towards this great Science of Ayurveds, the principles of which have been decided and translated into action since times immemorial, the expiry of a period of thousands of years have not in the least affected and changed whose bseic pricoiples and the merits of medicines us delineated lo that science are experienced as adyantage ons as before to the people of the whole of the world. Haodreds of those scholars to-day are stadying Ayaryoda intensively with laterest and speak for this Shastra in high luudable espressions. For some instances, in the matter, you may please refor to and read in my Presidental address of the Olst All India Ayurvedic Congress at Lahore, a book-let dispatched to you to day, with the literstaro of my institution, for your portal, 41 4 On knowing your eagerness for the stady of Ayazveda, I am very much pleased to have one more friend. added to my European circle of lovers of Syarveda. Your valuable iaformation have foond my vivid intcreat I was copccially happy to ficd so many proves of wataal onderstanding. The fullest of the Europcar medical scienct is rat'an isolated apprition, but jant one of the many symptoms of the abkolcte failer of the Ecropcan spirit, or spirituallım. The '43 + entire spiritoal development in Europe. has gone wrong ways for bandreds of years, causing a terrifying externalisation of every object, as well as to an exaggerated materialism, going to extremes. The consideratica of the internal forces of map bag been neglected entirely. What Europe Deeds most and alone can eave this contineat is the return to the valuable sources of the Asiatic spiritualism. For many years I have been fighting for this idea; also by means of articles in periodicals ("Oor Exropean Mission"), which have also appeared in Asiatic and American newspapers. This basic mental attitude has brought me in sharp opposition to the still ruling powers in Europe, thus my idealogical crasade is a steady battle. It is essential that public groups in Europe be absolutely ready to comprehend the mistakes of the European spiritualism and to wish a basic change in this regard. If those powers are not very much visible as yet, they are gonetheles latently present and at the given moment they will no doabt take on scccessfully. The International Circle of Coltare (ICC), presided by the ondersigned for a long time has been propagating the return to the spiritual powers of Asia. Very important is the accentuation of true ethics, which alone mast and can be the basis of all our activitier; this refers to the individaal as well as to the whole. This point of view is one of the main factors that Enropean medical science cannot be tolerated anymore in its present atatos, as it is one of ber most propagated believes to attain her remedies by torturing inaomerable thobeands of animals. To attain a profit by causing others to suffer is aiways an act which from the ethical point of view must be rejected. There is not a single philosophical sophistry tbat could jastify bad meads to attain a "good" end. Ar act, ethically wors, is however, in any care cordemned from the beginoing and will end in a failure. This is probably the main reason for the fail. are of the Europese medical science and Ayurveda is basically an ethical one, we believe it to be of great importance for Earopean man to get acquainted with Ayurveda and thus to corquer European medical science.
! . There is no doubt that heavy battling will start at the moment principles and possibilitics of Aforveda begin to take foot in Eorope. This conflict would however, not merely be a "discussion on parels scientifical terms-which would be highly welcome bat the Earopean medical icicoce will no doubt take advantage of all the churcbls and public (state) powers for a backing-ap to oppress the truth. The reprezentatives of the Evropcao medicine are to be found not only among physicians, aniversity professors, a. s. o, bat and mostly in the chemicalpharmaceutical trasts with their monster stockr, with their immedie inflaence on the Earopean prete and their widespread connections with political powers and their leadert. Accordiog to experience all meaos will appear to be right and wiù serve therc power to grant the contingency of their fundamental issues and believes. I am, however, confidently looking forward to this battle, as I know that it is inevitable if Europe wishes to find her way oat of disaster and because I am set to fight chivalrously and with the weapons of tratb. Forther, as I am convinced that ethice will win in the long ron, I feel sore that victory will be oars. Tbis abows you and yoar friends, at least partly, the difficalties we face in Europe. To bave the European people getting clorer to Ayarveda tbe following programme is being deemed essential : 1. Foundation of the EUROPEAN AYURVEDA INSTI- TUTE (head quarters), working io close co-operation with you and your friends. This institate could be attached to the I. C.C., thug securing the advantage of haviog quite a group of intellect. Dals who are already interested in Ayurveda. 2. It is essential that the respective Asiatic Personalities stand behind this institote, persons whose names bear international importance, for the European public to see that this project is being backed-ap by valuable Asiatic Personalities and Scientists. Before everything else these would have to give fall spiritual eopport to this enterprise. This will be more important than 1 45 are financial assistance. Of coarse, there will be a necessity to draw fonds, bot they will not be considered as to be of first importance, as in this regard we sore to find ample material arsistance here in Earope. It would be of very great importance and highly appreciated if the Mabaraja of Navanagar or another bigh ranking personality whom you may consider fit for this position would take over the Protectionthip of Earopean Ayurveda Institate. 3. To get European man acquainted with Ayurveda it will be necessary that the Institate inades a periodical. This too, could be combiped with our I. C. C. magazine (monthly), wbich will appear shortly. The necessary space could be reserved exclusively for article on Ayurveda. 4. Further a book will have to be published by the E. A.I. bat the same should got be too volaminoor. Its aim would be to show the Europeang what Ayarveda basically is at all, on what principles it has been built op, what the succe98 is up to now, etc. It should be a pablication for laymen, in order to enlighten the broad pablic on the matter. 5. It has to be arranged that able Epropeans take op studies on Ayarveda through the Institution. A: soon as a first group of European students for Ayarveda is ready one or two Asiatic Scholars would have to come to Europe, to coodact lotitution. The education must be an near thoroogbness as possible and folly scientific. A cientific dissertation, like in other branches of uqiversity studies, will have to be taken into consideration and tbe same mast be submitted to an Auiatic University Board or a similar institute for verilication. Has the respective student completed his studies efficiently and surrendered an adequate distertation on Ayarveda, a corresponding diploma would be handed over to him legitimating him also in Europe. 6. It must be poderstood that this can be folfilled and grow gracioally goly. It is oor doty to plant the seedlirg 20W, and to sen to it that its growth is bein: promoted patil we have a strong tree. Later-on also the bigger pablications on Ajurveda will have to be translated into Eoropean language. .
I should be pleased to learn your opinion and to obtain , your coopeel on the fondation of the Earopean Ayurveda Institate, and it woald certainly be highly appreciated if this Iostitation soald work in close co-operation with yours. I am especially gratefal for your very intteresting comments on Ayarveda aod the respective literature. By the same mail I bave written to Dr. P. M. Mehta, 'MD. etc. with reference to you asking this gentleman to scad me the mentioned pablication. I sball be greatly honoured to hear from you agaio in 'the very near fatare, and I should consider myself very lacky it' we could arrange together that Ayurveda gets its proper place in Europe. With all my best compliments for you and your activities and with the wish that ALL BEINGS MAY BE HAPPY. YOURS IN THE DHAMMA, Sd./-Dr. K. H. Oor Reply 1 From:- -TO, Rasashala Aushadhashram *Dr. Phil. b. C., Dr, jor, K. H, Klaas, Goodal Dt. 15-10-51 Director ICC. President NEB A., Ellenadweg 19 "BER N, Switzerland My dear learned Brother, It gave me great delight to receive your air-letter of 20th Nov., 1951, which arrived here to late a: 0.1 14th Dec., 1951. Usually we receive soch air letters within a week from any part of the world. I thank you very much for your precious words. I pphold with all appreciation your sentiments about the entire spiritual degeneration graviog repidly in Europe and these words of yours are indeed valuable and thought-provoking. It 47 is correct to say that growth of Spiritualism in 'Earope 'bas taken a wrong turn for bundreds of years. You mast be fami. liar, perhaps, with the fact that India of 2500 years ago and of the days of Emperors like Athoka, Chandragupta Maurya and other benign 'ralers reigned sapreme in the fields of Philosophy, Astrology, Ayarveda, Geography, Astronomy, Architecture, Masic and many other sciences and was the Virtual Leader of the whole world. To speak of contemporary people, of the rest of the world, the ancestors of present generations in Europe, America and other countries, were groping in dark, moitly in primordial position and roamiog here and there. Gradually progressing in that position the Earopeans bave reached the present stage. Hence-after they will acquire an opportunity of developing spiritualism. It is the general order in the Natare that races first attain the faitest progress in raok materialien and after having been fed ap with that they are inclined to Spiritualism. Indians also were once in the same position. Laca of years ago a majority of them were folly engrossed in materialism. This can be koowo from the works of the researchers like Ravana and others and from historical treatises like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Parapaz etc. At that joncture, even then there was a class in India that flashed over the globe serene rays of knowledge in those days and even thereafter for Romany centaries to come. This magnificent prowess of those ancient seers are even today visualised in ancient sacred remgaats of that golden civilization in temples of yore, in copper-plateg and stone inscription and verily, in the store-house of knop. ledge left by them. Tbe glorious tradition of thousands of years bespeaks that India is destined by Almighty to be placed at the helm of the world, nay, the crest-jewell of the Universe. India only will be the saviour of the west aad other conotries from the clatches of materialiam. Usually, it is in the general temperameat of-people that they are attracted towards certain elements and are only disgusted with them after they are folly fed up. Thos, people of Earope will in no time begin to show their disdain towards their, fadı.
48 I am greatly satisfied to learn that you and your Mission, Biogly as well as with the belp of journalt work for many years in the direction of Itading the people of the west towards retard to Spiritaalitm of Aria, I appreciate all there activities of yours. I have not been able to grasp what apiritual and acientific means you own in attaining access la yoor intended aims and objectives. I believe, your people would first bs reqaired , to have a thorougb contact with and deep study of the Aryan scriptores such as Upanishads, Mahabharat, Valmiki Ramayan, Bbagvadgita and many othera nourishing the spiritualism and leadiog the world aright. Essential elements of all these may have to be placed before the world to awaken the latent tend. encies of inclination towards spiritaalism in the people of the west and make them fully and clearly aware of their mistaker. The subtle latent elemental aproats in human hearts having been thas aourished will grow up into rich fruit-bearing tree, and spread the numeroua branches of benevolence and welfare of manklod. ::. Efforts of your institution at propagatiog the priociples of ethics in all human activities in the achievement of the desired goal, are indeed laudable; bat I doubt we shall not be able to acquire the beat of the result in the field to long as Europe ia got made to realise the principles, propounded withoat any sense of selfishnets but solely for the welfare of maokind, by ancient Aryan reers, in their works written thousands of years ago. European medical science will be able to seek rolice, altimately, only in Ayurveda. The dignity and the superiority of this amazing science are described by me in my laat letter of 16-10-51 and at still a greater length in my Presidential Address at All India Ayorvedic Conference at Lahore, in 1942, a booklet of which is sent to you as per book-post, some time back. You will fiod interest in them, Medical science of Europe is to mach expensive, pompons and abowy that it is not within the reach of laymen. Despite the British domaia, extending over 200 years, in ladia hardly 4 crores of her people, oat of 40 crores, might have been takiog advantage of Edropean medical 49 science. Only the people residiog in cities are partly attracted towards it whereas the large teeming willloor of villagers solely rely on Ayurveda and nothing else, to maintain their lives. There are a pamber of men in India, even to-day, who have not even toached Allopathic drags. A copy of my letter addressed to opr Hon. Health Minister at the Centre, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur Baben and discussing the above-mentioned topic is enclosed herewith for your perasal. You will find mach interest in it. Well, in auch sort of circumstances, if our Government, the Adminl. strator wbereof are to the most erteat stamped with the so-called Wetera Caltare shoulder the responsibility of retascitatiag Ayorveda and acquire for it the lovely homely place of yore, again in the whole world, I believe, within no time Ayurveda will be proved to be the only beoeficial science to mankind. It is quite correct to believe that present European admi. nistrators haviog vested interests in European medical science, thote trustees of chemical-pbaramaceatical work, and all the Bapporten and upholders of it will certainly raise the bue and cry and leave no stone anturned to baffle all the attempts at introducing Ayorveda in ito stead. But Ayurveda is destined to be the Saperior Scieace of the world by Almighty and it is He who hat made it a part and parcel of the Sacred Vedas. Hence, the world will have to give it ito dae place as the greatest beneficial science, in due course and all its antagonists will have to secure safety in it by coming to its inspiring she ter. The conflict of the Western Materialism as against the Eastera Spiriticalism is inevitable. Notblog materialises well without conflict, such a conflict is forthcoming to place Ayurveda, ultimately on the pedestal of its pritiae glory. We are going to live to see it falfüled within our own life time. I can exactly ondentand, the difficolties, you and your friends face, in working in this field, bat no sooner you will be prepared to fight oat the battle than difficulties will be multiplied. Stül, I am confi. dent, the Invincible weapon of Ayarveda will help you in overcoming them all and achieving final victory for you.
50 I pay isoo my best complimente for the plan you have drawn oat o propagate Ayurveda in the West. Your scheme of establishiog E. A. I. and to attach it, for the present, to your renowned ICC, is worth considering. At the outset, I bope, we should tbink out a workable plan for the start and regular workiog of our intended institution, its aims and objectives, its reqairemento in attainiog success for it and all these and then, I think, the institution is born. Tbeo will follow, your mention of spiritual aid and assistance from high rank personalities of Asia. Before receiving that, moch remains to be done. We should prepare a fine prospectos for it, outlining in details all our fatore activities in the field. Meotion should also be made therein aboot oor aim of securing for the world the spiritual aplift through Aryan Sbastras such as those of Ayurveda, phi. losophy, Upadisbads etc. We shall also have to estimate oor expenses in the project. Then we should show how We are going to utilise the fande collected. Thas creating a grous form cf oor Jostitution and deciding a certain amount of fees for the members of various catagories, we should be active to enroll lacs of members in it. Having accomplished this mach and the institution having been come ioto existence and financially well established, the programme tray be carried on ſorther. From the finance, thos nicely at band, it should be ko arranged that a certain amount of it may be sent to its Centre in India so that according to the counsel from here, the Centre over there may carry oat the task for the whole of Eorope, while this Centre may mapage for the whole of Asia. A glimpse of my scheme for propagating Ayurveda and other lores, will be-kaowa to you on perasal of my booklet "Oatline-sketch of Somnath Sanskrit Vishwa Parishad', my correspondence with our Hon, Food Minister at the Centre, Dr. K. M. Moashiji. The same is sent to yoo to-day ogder a separate book-post. Fouadation of the ſostitution and collection of necessary faadt at the onteet haviog been done, the programme that will be carried on for the institution will be such that it would automatically attract the attention of promiocat international 31 273 personalities towards it and coming into its contact, they would aid and assist the same. Unless and antil our strong and solid institation comes into existence it would not be worthwhile to expect great personalities and scientists to come to our assistance. Prorrigent Indian personalities sucb as our leading Administrators like Hon. President Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Nebra, Rajkumari Amrit Kaor Baben; C. Rajgopalchariar, Dr. K. M. Montbi, Sbri Nandaji, Dr. Kailaenath Katja, Mabarahi Tandon. Shri Dayaebapkarbbai Dave, Scientists like Sir C. V. Raman; Rajas and Maharajas like H, H, the Maharaja Jam Sabeb of Nawanagar, H. H. the Mabarani Saheb of Nawanagar, H. H. the Mabarajas of Jodhpur, Jaipur, Patiala, Travancore, H. H, the Maharaja Shri Krisbnakamarzinbji, the Governor of Madras, H. H. the Maharaja Shri Bhojrajji of Gondal; Leading Vaidyas and high sank persons like Vaidya Ratna Pandit Shiva Sharma, Ayorveda Marcand Shri Yadavji Trikamji Achatyai Vaidyaratna K. Pratapsinhji, Vaidyashastri Paodit Rama- Darayan Sharma, M, M. Pandit Bhagirath Swami Rasayaga. charya, Agatveda Shastri Vaidya Sabbakant Z53, Vaidya Shri Prataprai Prabharam, Vaidya Rataa Shri Vaso levbhai Dwivedi, Dr. P. M. Maheta, Dr. Gailder, Rajavaidya Balvant Sharma, Shri Balkrishgabhai Vaidya and all these will come out to help our ibstitution. Similarly services of European and American statesmen, schoları, scientists and the like will be solicited. Gradually, the institution will be raised thus to soch a stat 19 that a great circle of those interested in Argan scriptures and spiritoalism will be created and the principle aim of this institution viz a cqaring the prominent place for Ayarveda in the entire world will be fully materialised. According as you have mentioned we shall prepare for the institute och best poblications for even laymea tbat you will be able to place it before the public there, after modifying them according to your viewpoints and thoa secara a big circle of crorea of readers of Agarveda and Argan scriptures for our Centre. This literatare will also terve the porpose of attaining real peace, happiness and prosperity in the world and the whole wo'ld will be tied by the bond of Fraternity and Love.

34 FEO:- Ragash la Aushadhashram Oar Reply] GONDAL, Dt. 21 Tob. 1952 To:- Shriman D. A. Kolkarpi, Sabeb Depaty Director of Medical and Health Service (Ayarredo ) LUCKNOW (U. P.) Dear Sir, Thanks for your letter of 2-2-1952 wbich reached bero on 14-25%. 1. I am delighted to learn that Government of Uttar Pradesh bayo appointed a Committee of Experts for the preparation of & Pharmacopoeia of Ayurvedic and Unani Bledioides. %. It gives me pleasure to not that this committee aims at preparing • PbasicRospodin b: the systems of Medicine vis, Ayurveda sod Unipi; but I cannot follow how this is fossible, Bg there is a past dilteronce in the games, methods of preparation, deos and properties of the drogs in both the Systems. By making a confusion in the admixture of the two tho Government will bave to incur apneceseary great expenses and the sesalt will not be estisfactory. Hence, it is my brable opinion that this committee of U. P. Gort, should prepare two separate treatises: 1 Ayarvedis Pharmacopoeia, and 2. Voani Pharmacopoeia. This would algo facilitate the work of Vaidyas Praotitioners and Hakims, the expected abers of the saido. 3. Berebelow, I mention some salient festares of the proposed Ayarvedic pharmacopoeia: 4. I think, if the Doglish method of preparing the Pharmacopoala is followed for our task, it would not be suitable, facilitating and in fitness of thioga for our Agarredio Method. The use of thousands of medicines such as Bhaeroas, Kapi Pakya Reka Rauayanes, Parpaties, Pille, Gaggals, Tallas, Obritag, Chooraas, Kwatbe, Ayalebas, Abavas and mady others, mentioned in various Sembitas and other Rasayan Granthag of Agarsede, would be as impossibility. So this Ayurvedic Pbarmadoposia Bhoald be divided into two geotions. (1) Drarya-Gans-Darsbak Pharmacopoeia. (2) Biddbs-Ansbadba-Gans-Darshak Pharmacopoeia. 5. Allopathic Pharmacopoeia generally describes ingredients, tioctores, powders, salts and other preparations made out of them, their methods of preparation, propertios eto. Then the Doctors and practitioners reler to them for prefcriptions for various patients considoring the palare of tho kilmoot, and then proscribe mixture from them according to thoir esperience and elficacy of drogs formerly tried on other patients. 1 1 35 6. Method of Ayarreda entirely diffors in this respect. 7. Ayorpeds prescribes for varions discases certain Siddha Arshadbag I. 6. medicines prepared from the yoga of certain tegitable, mineral and animal products. Cboorpas, Rasas, Rassyspis, Pills, and other preparations used on almost all diseases contain 10, 20, 25 or more ingredients. The Siddha Aushadha thus prepared is primarily meant for a certain specific disease, bat considering the properties of the ingredients and the yoga of all of them tbe same drug can be used with effiosoy on several other diseases also. Thus the Vaidyas have to utilise ready made prescriptions tried and experienced by Master Vaidyas throngh ages and inheritance whoreas the Doctors have to prepare their owo prescriptions, at their own sweet will. Tbus is allopathy there are as many prescriptions 'as there are doctors. 8. In the Pharmacopoeia of Allopatby they describe the properties of every prodact or the preparation made from them. Thus Ayurveda albo describes the properties of the three sorts of medical droge. Bat tbeir 18 is generally made by yoga of them, that means, several sack droge are nized in small or big quantities Bod to new preparation is utilised 81 the medicine for specifio diseases Certain Bhaamas are prepared with the help of certain herbs whereas cortain others are given BEAVANAS of some specified plants and herbs Boveral other Bhasmas require the Yoga of three sorts of prodacts. This being the position one siddha Ausbadba besides caring a certain discase, is also bolpful in healing other diecases, This task is fulfilled by various herbs. of various properties, mired in the drog. To tell in short, Siddha Aashadbas of Ayurveda are the tried and experierced prescriptions of ancient Arya Rishis and Manly, at the end of their toil of bandreds of years. 9. Let us take Suvarna Malini Vasant as an instanco here. The ingredients in this drag are Swaroa Bhasma 1, dloti (Pearl) Bhainn 2, Ras Sindoor (Red-Bharms of mereary prepared from mercary and soldbar), 3, Popper 4, Yashad Bhaspa or Kbarpar 8. These thiogs are to be mixed in batter and to be lovigated for 21 days in the joleo of lemods. The proportion of batter gradaalls decreases and alliwstely vanisbes. Levigntion is then stopped. Now various articles in this bave variots ellocta For lastaroe, Gold destroys the jerms ol T. Bull it works wonders oo obasily, hydrocele, liver and spleen troubles, indigestion, constipation, slow favor, dineases of intestines eto. dos to the yoga of those parious berbs and sabstancos baring different properties. 11. These Siddha Aushadhas in Ayurveda are themzolves the best, tried and experienced prescriptions. They come under the class of Rush, Basajan, Galiks, Gaggal etc. Their oomber is very large but still about 3000 of them are of daily use to Vaidyas and their knowledge is acquired by them through inberitanco. Those siddha Aushadbas form the basis of Ayurveda and AyorTodio Raneyan Shaatras, 12. Thas the constrý may be relieved of a large borden of crores of rapeer belag spent after foreigo drogy and dependence on forelga countries for medical aid and parapharoelia. 4. Hence, it would be seen that a dae place in the central as well as provincial goveramente each for one expert: Vaidya would be an absolute necessity in the administration of the country. Rastrapatiji and Governors of Provinces have according to the constitution, right to dominate some members, in the legitlatore, considering their proficiency la various scriptores or arts. It is here that I would like to suggest yoor honour to pomipate one expert Vaidya at the centre in the tcheme and "the provinces shoold be advised to follow tuit. 5. Io yoor honour's selection for aomination certain names of artists and musicians are there. According to newspaper your bonoor have selected 12 member for Domination bat etül however if there be a vacancy or if it is possible through your honour's special power to nominate a man repretesting Ayurveda, at 'my homble request, the noble atep would be considered to be the greatest service to the great Sacred Scriptore which would gain honoar and justice toder yoor honour's benign rule, It would be a big stride in the service of the conatry. 6. It would be worth while here to propose the names of ! Valdya Ratoa Shivsharma of Labore, presenti, ataying at Bombay * or 'Kaviraj Anbotosh Mazamdarji of New Delhi, for the pomi. nation as Vaidya in the central legislature.
62 *** The Governor of the Panjab has a right to homtoate Borrëmbers. There also the name of Kaviraj Dharmadatta Chaudhary M. A, M. S. or some soch Vaidya-deserve mention 8.' The Governor of Bombay cao honour by nomitation Valdgaraj Shivebármaji who has been many often honored by All India Ayurvedic Congress with the Presidentship and who occupies a high place amonget the Vaidyas of India. The name of Ayorkeda Martand, Valdyaraj Jadavji Trikamji Acharya also dererves a mention here. 9. The Governor of West Bengal can thus honour Pandit Shri Ramparayan Sharm3, the Editor of Sachitra Ayurveda and a Vaidya of high repotation. These are certaio instances in the point at band while there are so many other Vaidgas of high "Tepatation and renown in every province that if their services are availed of the Government would gain wach. 10. Thos, I reqaest your honour to advise all the provinces of India to nominate wortby Vaidyas for their respective legislatures and facilitate the work of Goverament ia preservlag the Pablic Health. 11.' in this way in 28 to 30 provinces the appointáent of the representatives of Ayarveda or the All India Ayurvedic Congrers would mean the aplift of oss glorioas ancient, Scriptare and help and assistance to the Goveroment in the task. 1:-12. There are in India many digoified Valdgas who can dlscharge the datles even as Health Mlaisters at the Centre of Provlaces. These days in the administration many Doctor of *Allopathy are given bigh status where as the Vaidyag haviog egoal or more qualifications are beiog neglected. They shopld be, on the contrary, given aa equal opportunity to serve the, pation and the Government. 13. Mahabharat, Ramagan and the works of history and politics maintain that is aucieate timen learned Vaidyas occapled -a respectable status, say, of even a minister, in the administration of the country. 1 63 ॥ " ॥ il ।" :14. In 85th chapter of Shantiparyan and 522nd chapter of Sharaoparva of Mahabharat Bhisma Pitamah advises Yadbisbthira in the following words, "Those who have lustare, fortitude, forbearance, intellest, sacredness and those who are well-versed in scriptures, bold, firm, noble, strong and study, and those who can march with the time abould be appointed as ministers. Amongst them should be appointed foor Vaidyal who may be Brahmins, experts, Intellectnals, learned and chaste. 15. Thus beginning from ancient days till many years Vaidyas occapied an honourable statal in the administration of lodia. The present administration should revive the same metbod. 16. In order to resucitate Ayarveda and make it withia the reach of every home in our country a separate Department for Aparveda shopla be opened lo every province. The director of the department should be a Vaidya. He would propagato Ayurveda lo every village of bis province. He would supply the people, medicines at the least expense and would edacato the people with the necessary koowledge of preserving the health, through Ayorvedic viewpoint. 17. Government of Saprathtra have set a worthy examplo In this respect. Ao independent Ayorvedic Department has been

opered with a worthy Vaidya at the director. A scheme has
been prepared to make the Agarvedic medicines within the
reach of the people in every village and the work bas already
beeri earnestly started. The Government deserves compliments
for that. All the provincial governments sboald follow soit.
18. I beg your honour't excuse for the letter has been
rather elaborate,
19. I hope, my vlewe in the letter will find your bogoar's

65 ܕ ܙܗ ܀ ܀ ܝ TO - [9] Request to H. H. The Maharaja Shri Jam Saheb: to revive Ayurveda From: Shri Bhavagebwari Pith, Gondal. Dated. 14-4-52 His Higbaess The Mabaraja Shri Jam Saheb Shri Sjr Digvijayainhji Saheb Bahadar, G. C S. 1. etc. Rajpramukh Shri, Government of Saurashtra. Your Gracions Highnets, Asbirwadag: Some days back at a ceremoney at a Science Research Institute at Nagpur, Your Highness, have according to new., made a worthy witty remark, in the course of the address to the following effect, about Your Highre-t's weight. Your research institute should make such a res, arch as would help me in reducing my weight." These words of Your Highness, though attered in natura) wit and bumour, certainly tell as the hard fact. Really, the weight of Your Higbrest huve increased considerably than it wag tome years back and I believe, it is still increasing. Heoce, it ir gaite patural for Your Highaeus and Your Highness's well-wishers to feel that something ahoold be done to decrease the weight. 2. Vaidyak Sbastras term this extraordinary and increasing weight to be obezity - "Med-Vriddhi Thoic words of Yopt Higboers noorish our innermost lateat aim at doing something to redace the weight. Your Highoc,s's friends, admirers and relatives also share with care and sympathy with these natural remarks of Your Highness. I would corroborate this with the followiog lastance, 3. Oar motoal friend Conid! Comdr. Dr. Walter Selb Kippig of Orange, New Jersey (U.S.A.) bas willingly remarked as below, together with glowing words in admiration of Yoor Highnets, in the para of 4 bis letter of 11th Nov. 1951 ".........There is bot one criticism I would offer of the Maharaja Saheb and that is I 18h he would reduce in weight which would give him so many more years of ancial life........." These witty words of this learned friend reflect his sincere Eure about Your Highness' health."
66 To my reply to the above letter, on 27-11-51 I had written to him in para 10, as below: Your bomoar in criticising the bulky body of Maharaja Shree is realy worthy of a close friend and well-wisher. As à devotee of Ayarveda I woald also like to request His Highneas to be miodfal of the same. There are so many herbs that will do the work and will not diminish the strength and vitality of the body." la these words I had atgnied bin to redace the weight of Your Highoegs if Agarvedic drags are takeo. 4. Copies of the letter from Dr. Seth Kipnis agd my reply to bim were despatched at the same time to Yoar lighnete and Her Highness Namdar Maharani Shri Galabkanverba Sabeb, for perasal 5. Thos Your Highnes! woald be pleased to koow that 5 months before this Nagpor Address, I had referred to thli sobject with sarity to get the weight redaced through Ayorvedic medicines. To-day, I proclaim with certainty, asearance, mild- Dess and modesty that it is the Ayarvedic Medicines that would only prove perfectly efficacious in the case of stoppiog and reducing the increasing weight of Yoor Highpegs. No other method will be more cificacions than that: Aynrvedic medicines, would give the least trouble but would bring a brilliant success in this case without bringing the least weakness to body., 6. Some steps certainly need be taken before the ever increasing weight would rffect the heart and other limbs of the body. I advise Yoor Highcess to give due importance to the fact 7. It would be just like boilding castles in the air to wait till that Science Rerearch Iostitate would take years, to discover the remedy, make many experiments on other persons and finally prescribe for Your Highneet a certain drag that world prove usefol. In other words, it is next to impossible. We know that Allopathy is patronised by the State and crorea, of ropees are being spent after researches in it, yet no panacea hae yet been discovered for natty diseasea like T. B, Cancre, Obesity (MED. VRIDDHI) Leprous and many others; whereas Ayorveda aod its Rasayan Shattra give to as through noble tradition and 5 67 heritage of our ancient Adga Acharya, and Rishis and Manis who have diccovered ratept remedier for those and other incorable dircasca, through researches of ho dreds of years and experience extending over a vast period. But it is a matter of deep griet and regret that our own leaders, Rajas, Mabarajas, and opolent citizens atterly neglect them in this age. 8. It is only due to the wapt of patrons that miraculous things of our Argan Scriptures have not come intlight. Despite our present Role of the People our scriptores still share the ill fate of condemnation instead of good lock of encouragement, Io the light of encouragement to other methods of medicines, if a little support is extended to our Scieoce, I am certaio, the expert Vaidyas and savants of those scriptores would bring before the people marvellous things lying in the dark and thus woald enbance the glory and wealth of the country. We certainly grope for the very thing, we postess through heritage. It is nothing but the exhibition of our 9964 ta gfe: the direct oat come of western learning and caltare, oot to give importance to our ancient Scriptores. 9. Medicines for every ditease, discovered by car Acharyas are so elfective that, besides caring the specified disease, they vitalise other parts of the body without making them weak, whereas the medicines prescribed by allopathy generally core the specified diecage only to a certain exteat alfecting other limbt of the body adversely, Thas allopathy corce one disease bat creates many. Many cases of rach medicines and the patients who have tried them can be cited to support this view. 10. I am not the only on: to tender sach a belicf bat many scholars of Europe and America rapport this view of mine. Not only that bot they strongly recommend their countrymen in unequivocal terms to leave allopathy and to resort to Ayorveda. Dr. Phil b, c Dr. iur. K. H. Klaas, Director of ICC., President NEBA of Bern, Switzerland, is 'be instance in the piot lo bis letter of 20-11-51 to me he has very clearly written to me aboot the recent trends of apatby in the West, towards allopathy and gradual awakeolog of the reople towards the noble écrip:ores of East. At the same time I had despatched a copy of the said letter to Yoor Highness and apother to tbe workers of Gulab Kanverba Aforvedic Society. This letter was publiebed at that time in various periodicals sacb 79 Szchitra Ayurveda, of Calcutta etc. 11. Vaidgas can stop the increase in weight by prescribing the following and such other medicioes aod reduce the weight already iacreared. If Your Highness select the Agarvedic treatment, I can assure that, withoat affecting the vitality of the body, one iodigenous drags would reduce with efficacy, the weight at the rate of 40 lbs. a year approximately. We take for instance the following prescription. 1. Arogya-vardhani. 5. Chyavanprash Aval-ha. 2. Lob Rasayan. 6. Chandraprabba Goggal. 3. Medab-Shosbi Rata. 7. Yograj Guggol 4. Yogendra Rasa 8. Maha Sarawati Sara. (Thc total weight of ingredients amoooting to 140 tolas, according to Sahatriya Patha) Special preparations of Loh, Abhrak, Gaggal etc. in yoga' with other drugs can be deed. There and certain other medicines also can be used independents or in yoga with other proper drage 12. If Yoar Highness decide to take the Ayurvedic mode of treatment Your Highnes may first convene a small meeting of learned Ayurvedic Physicians to discuss the problem They would put their heads together and uganimously decide having considered fully all the symptoms for obesity, as to how many drugs are to b: coorpoonded and prescribed. Haviog thar comiog to decision about the presccription if Your Highness think it proper to ats the drogs after getting some of them prepared under the supervision of the committee of Vaidyar, it may be 10 arranged by them. 13. When Your Highness, bave pot this problem bcforc the scholan for discussion and research by the address at Nagpor, I consider it a matter ol pride for os to let Your Highness rccognise what Ayurveda nas to say in the matter. When Your Higbocst's wits and words épread in the whole world a question woald at once bc taited with crprise before the world as to, how is it that Maharaja Shri tibo bas donalcd lack of rapese altcr thc researcb in the valoabic treatise of Chark Sambila, could pat fied a tiogle roody from it that would reduce the Weight and His Higanca had 10 pat the matter before science 69 research institutes working on western lines ! Glory of Ayurveda and Charka Samhita diminishes a great deal when such problemi" arice. While hundreds of learned scholars in Earope an:1 America evioce their interest in Ayurveda, presenting before them its pristine glory and gird ap their loina to propogate 'Ayurveda and its medicines in their countries to make their people immanel from diseases, a great leading personality of India, Yoar High- Ders, gaze at the West for hope and ingpiration. To pot it with modesty, it is the Ayarveda that oply can falfill this work with handred percent Buccess. When such is the potency of Ayurveda do expert of Ayurveda cao disregard that otterance of Your Highnest. 14. Of course, this problem of Your Highness is strictly persopal, but as Your Highoess's worthy self made it poblic, I as a devotee of Ayurveda though writing this letter to Yoar Highpess also put hambly before the public for fellow researchers and those who are interested in order to show them what Ayarveda can do in the matter. This age-old aseſol system of Ayarveda bas been interwoven with the 90 percent of people of our country and it helps them to be free from diseases and maintain good health. 15. In order to pat the matter, clearly the letter bas been rather elaborate for wbich I beg escase. 16. It is well known to me that Your Highoes and the Royal family evince deep faith in oar tradit onal Aryan fcriptarer. It is not a matter of garprise bat it it qoite natural for your Highneus the desccodant of Lord Shri Krishna Hence, Ayorveda hopes for sopport from Your Highness, occupying digaified statas at home and abroad. 17. I bless Your Highness that may Yoor Higaners lead a happy healthy life of fall 100 years, may Your Highness's cberished desires be fulfilled and be able to serve the Motbcrland lor very long time. With Vedokta Ashirwadas, I remain, Yoar Highness's most sincerely, ॥ श्रीचरणतीर्थः॥ (Raserhasharsa Shricharacatirtha Mabaraj) 1 70 [10] Hon'ble the Health Minister at the Centre, The Times of India and Maharaj Shri on Rural Health Services, (Covering Letter) From: To The Editor, Rassghala, Gondal The Times of India, BOMBA Y. D. 10-7-52 Dear learned Brother, I was delighted to read your lcarped editorial, in the Sanday edition of 6th iost of your esteemed paper. Your comments on the address in Parliament, of our Hon'ble Health Minister, are deserving aad encouraging to Ayorreda. At the very time when I was preparlog to pat my rions before pablia, on the problem, I read soar Talaed editorial. Hence, to-day I hereby doopstch to you by separata letter my own thoughts on the problemas raised from the address of our Honb'le Health Minister. If tbey' please yon, you may afilise them in the way you like, by girlag pablialty to them in your esteemed paper, 80 as to make the people sad our ad ministrators know foyeral things about Agarveda. IE required to read, I sball be pleased to send you tho copy of my former detailed letter, written to our Hon'blo Realth Minister 7-4-50, og tbis very subject and also tho copies of my correspcodenco with reaorded Western Doctors, tko ception of whom is made in the adjoining letter, Shri Bhavaneshwari Pith, Your faithfally GONDAL, ( Kathiawad) ॥ श्रीचरणतीर्थः ॥ ( Ratchacharya Anant Shri Shricharagatirtha Maharaj) [ DETAILED LITTER) From: To The Editor, Rasuhaia, Gondal The Times of Iodle, BOMBA Y. Di. 10-1-33. Deur 1:ursed Broiber, I like iMa ofpertaaily to cetupliment you for your deserving contest la the lefet ditarial of the Chu Irstast, on thm alteranong of our Wonossubie Halb Winiale: Shirt Majkapuri dorit Kaur, about floral Health Seitisu for wbich she receatis spoke in the Parliament. It be delighted ,71 1 me more at's time when I was just going to make a press statement about it but now thinking that they will be betal, I coorey to you by this.. those yary views of mido, on the subject. . 1. It has been evident on many an occasion daring tbe tenure of her office from the begioning till to-day that Shri Rajkumari Amrit Kaur is strictly apathetio towards Ayurveda and completely inclined towards Allopatby. Her address, with a support from our Honorable Prime Minister Pandit Nehra, before the conferende, of the Health Ministeri, hold last year, provides only one of the many instancos lo the point. On realising the resultant reaction, in lacs of villages of India, arising from her * apathetic views about Ayurveda, if she would bare now metamorpbosed ber outlook and agreed not to evideo "Step-motherly" attitade, tbs people lovlog Ayurveda and the Vaidyas too world thaok bør the most It is our ordent wish that if she would try to be familiar with Ayarrade, know its intrinsic worth and coming into close contact with veteran Vaid;8, try to imbibe how the Veidyas care the incorablo disonses diconrded as such by the allopathio doctors, she would berself be a great loyer and admirer of Ayorpela. 2. Eren "Btep motherly" inclination for Ayurveda, wo wlub, is worthy of a warm welcome, because the very word itselt suggests of some greater favour to the individual or institation of one's owo Ilking and little leeser towards the other party. But here, on the contrary, in Intolerable polioy on the part of the Health Department is well manifest in trampling, uprooting and destroying Auveds us against allopathy, and honce a more dreadfal similie than only "Step-wotborly " would be mors doserting. It is not only tajast on the part of one to form or express 80 opinion, favourable or otherwise sbont tbe Sbestra la which there to do Insight, experience or knowledge, but it is also out of ong's proplace, however great personality ono may be. 3. It she does not intend to leader "utop-motborly" attitede towards Ayurveda, sbosboald, at the oatset, ask ber ows Department to stop iosaing frequent "Coclidential-circuları' agılast the Voidyau There are doranl proylocisl offioers who know the potency of Ayurveda, sad itt importance in the artico of the peoplo at large and try to work in the direction of its interest. Soch offloers are many oftea at their wils ead, looklog to the attitate of their bigberaattorities at the centro, sbect vestering anything in the esta cf Ayurtode of a time wben the doma of its aplift sad progress is distlactly realised by ttem. Arngacheats may bo mado by her to cipel rach dread from the bearts of tbove webo ndoalno Ayartoda Esperi Vaidyas obould be plenced on decrying Algo 72 Bathoritative posts, so that they can even guide eright the officerë pre judiced against Ayurveda and absolately unaware in the radiments of the this Master Science, and when problems, Ayurvedic, arise, they would progido convinciog solutions. To-day only the doctors aro giveo prominent places in the Health services at the contro or provinces. Learned Vaidyas sbauld also be given equal importance as thore are ippomerable such expert Vaidyas in India, who besides, boing tho 'masters' in the knowledge of Ayurveda are beying admirable insiglt into allopathy also. Thus, combining higher qaslificatioos in the science, they can well compete with the doctora. 4. Oar honourable minister should recognise that it is an ac!lpity in the disregard, disrespect and disioterest of the people of Indis, to aim at distortiog or destroying a science, which bag acquired on esteemed place, which is in terroren in their every worldly or religions daties beginning from birth to death which through ages is in the hearts and life of the people, and wbich has been imparting to them full bealth, making them iandae from diseases. Really speaking, the anthority in power sboald prodentially accept and utilize this Shastra, beneficial to the poople, and thus achiote an esteetable plsco in the bearts of the people. 8. Bandreds of doctors and practitioners, occopying, conspicuort places amonget their own people and state, ia Europe and America, bare 'begad, since many years, plaqing Ayarveda on a bigher statas than Allopatky. This fact is well rellected in thede wspapers and other literaltro of those respective countries. Yo sro also well aware of this situation dao to Rasasbals Aushadbasbran's contact with the Tostera dopptrier. 'Yestern practitioners too strongly recommend the #84 of Ayurvedio mediciaca, to care 90 p. o of the diseases that can be cured without operation. Many of those doctors themselves baro aloo begon to use OBI Ajurvedlo madlcloes lo most cases, Qae correspondencs, with Dr. Klass of Switserland, is an instance la tbe mattor. The Govoroment, of to progresalto a country, like Rasia, has also began svipciog interest in Ayurveda. 6. Daring their domain ol 200 years to lodia, tbe Britisboro bad made beropless efforts to prodeco small or big degree-Lolder doclors, tot ibo mala intoation of them is this project was to atillas these doctors as their own agents for therlag lato lades tho torgical instruments us well As medicions mudo ia their of Odpiry and thas to enrich Great Britalo througb those virtual gea's of tbelt wuapketurni. 1. It has thesdngged away till to-day, crores of rapes from lodia. Derlag tbels dministration bort steen was laid on the sc!lity sl .
TA 10. Dar administrators themselves agree that Doctors and Narses are geporalig disinclined to go and settle amongst the village folk, sod therefore, they dream about training the people in rural areas as Doctor aids and Norsemaid: and make them able to attend the daily needs of village people, bot it is an impossible task to achieve. Bence, if it is not considered a risk to train the villagers with snperficial kaowledge in allopathic syelem and entrasting them the lives of people, why ebonid the Gramya-Vaidyas, already pcasessiog general kaowledge in Agorred, bs deemed dangerous for the purpose ? There is no barm, in recognising tbem, training them with supplementary neefal information in the science and thus allow them to serve tbo villages becaase they are fully familiar with the temperament, modes of living, aatore of diseases and physica) condition of the villago people. 11. Dar reprezealalives of tho people sitting in the Parliament should Jao epinos interest in matters Ayurvedio and know that even the saperfloial koowledge of Allopathy to be imbibed by the villagore, according to the piows of the Health Minister, is to be began by them gaito afresby and it would be apspitable to their nalare, mode of living and means, whereas it their knowledge of Ayurveda is supplemented and apt eacouragesosat given to them they would be ablo to ArTo the village peoplo moro systematically, which thoy are alrcady doing, in a way, by tto knowledge gained by them through inheritance. 1., Old men and women, barbers, school teachers, brahmias-readio, Bacred stories and small Vaidyas etc. in overy village, are treating and rertiog the villago psople, in accordance with their koowledge, expericace, note into accient Bloescripts inberited by them. In lacs of imu]l nad big villages in lodia, thero aro wady Diodeipts dealing with treatm:ct of discascs by ladigraous system. Hoch manoscriplo many often contais tho literatura abad 10 roadtrial medicinos as Tould a2130 CTCA qualified Yaidyas ad Doctors. It ibe Gramya-Valdgus thus proficient la iho rclecco aro patronised in treir proferslon, each locs of rare Ayarredo thanascript writtea io Broukrit nad provlacial languages, world code cat rod tto country would gain och from there. Thos, .s ro bare mask to impart to the Gramy-raidya, la order to moderniso then, the edocated doctors, Taidjas ard llatio, tayo also to learn a lot from there. Ja lopartiog medical instruction to villagers, Ho can tell them about freemary allopathic drogs er noiem, in paglag, but tho naclcat of the koowledge to be imparted should be Ayurveda only. 13. Tbuse village people or the Unmya-Valdjas, even today proopis sad mully obtula arenal of the regolable, clseral and malsal the 75 most regr Apbstances, required for preparing medicides, as they can be found readily from riverside, streamlets, foreats, fields and out #krits of each and every village. They do not require to stare dependently at the cities for getting them. If the allopathio system is followed they will have to be dependeat, for all the above things. This way the system of indigenous drugs would Beryé as a means to save crores of rupees of the government. The sarity of the fact that the Ayurveda is the only practical system to keep the prople free from diseases and preserve their health, ebaking off the d rendency in matters medical, will be realised by the Government in very near falare if not to-lay. 14. It is a matter for culo coasideration that the pablic bealth, before only 50 years from our days, was very 1000d and people were long-lived, atont and stordy, whereas the position in our times is tha ble. This can be well realised eyed to-day if we look at stout bodies of villagers and our own elderly members of the family. Hence, it is quite evident that, despite the progressite means coming on scene right from the British rale, the life and health of the people are being gradually decreased day by day. What reasons can be put forward in this a se? The Britishers well koew them but our leaders have dever tried to ponder over them, 15. After the war of independence in 1857, the policy of the Britishers, regarding public health, was very ruinons. They knew that most of the Indian populece are non-vegetarians As to the nourishing animal elements reqaired by the body, they get them sofficently from milk, cord, ghee, whey, butter eto.. In order to make them hardly inaccessible they began, as a part of their crooked policy, the terrible cow-blaogbter in India. which was dever eyen dreamt by the Indian peoplo and which did not happen even during the role of any of the Mohacomedaa Emperors. They carried this beinous task to soob au externe that lacs of cows began to be slaughtered. They doveloped even the business of the flesh and skin op & very large scale, in a country, where the people worship the con Divine Mother. This has gives terrible blow to the pablic health. 16. The gradual redection is the pouriebiog elements of boman bodics, medo trem feeble and short-lived. A day was there when it wae deemed to be a ..u to geli the Go-raz (1k etc.), and still however, creu if some p:ople ased to sell it, people got it at very cheap raler, say, 2 ponds for one To-day, even at sky bigb rates of, say, 12 annas or a rupee, we get only impore milk adulterated with water or powder. British 49 the anda.
76 sponsored dairies from where the milk etc. are robbed of the life-giving elements, and the eprcad of the injurious addicitioa to tea, have also told heavils on pablic health, as the scarcity of milk has been increased a lot by them. Thas the destruction of cattle-the wealth of the nation, causing the decrease of natore prodaced from cattle drags etc., and the decrease in the stock of ballocks have brought devastating influence on our field products. It is dae to these reasong that food-staffs are getting very dear everyday, 17. In order to add to the above list of nation-anpililatlog elements the epidemic in the form the nation. Thas, it would be clear, that anprecedented scarcity of poprisbiog foods like milk, ghee and food-graios, addiction to evil habits and wanton. negs in lives acquired through blindly imitating western fashions deplorable state in getting even fall.bread for the belly, spread of artificial sobstances like vegetable ghee, all these, combined together have been instramental in making the bodies of people emaciated, week, feeble, full of diseases and anfit to live even au baman beioge. Besides planning to provide Doctors, Vaidyas nurtea Hakims, medicines etc. to free the people from diseases, the Government needs consider the primary plan of providiog noorishing elements to the bodies of the people, becaase since aiz to seven years last every year that parter is ao terrible and patural and man-made calamities have made the people 80 belpless that crores of people do not get even a meal for once a day and if they sabrit before the Crael Desting, falling a prey to various diseases, it is not amazing. Besides the medical treatment, if people get enough food and elements to maintain and nourish the body, they would require little medicine to regaia robust health. 18. Instead of meakiog medicioes within the reach of every village, the Government needs first to consider the working oat of a scrions plan to do away with food-control and enable - the villagers to maintain a com in every home, so that a great economic borden on the Goverament in supplging the people the noorisbiog elements, will be lessened a great deal.
19 - 25. Tlc prejudice and disdain against Agarveda, the outcome of the policy of the British, formed by our Doctor administrators,' are still working against its interest. Ayorveda has been pat at the mercy of those who do not know even radiments of this geat science, but when any work aboat a Shastra is entrusted to its experts, it is realy deemed to be practical, just and in fitness of things. Perhaps, the Doctors might be sustaining the fear that if the authority of Ayurveda is accepted, it may in fatare occupy a leading place even in the politics aud their own glory may diminish; Bat this fear is out of place. The "Rantlya'--spinning wheel of Mabatma Gandhiji coming in forefront, the mills have not been locked up, and the steering of the administration being, entrasted to the Indians themselves, ao digordera or chaos, according to the belief the Britishers, has spread in the country, 26. Ayarveda heving been given dae place apd patronage, our doctors will have to go deep into science and they only they would also become the fastest devotees of the Ayarveda like the western degree-holding doctors of the west take pride in placing before the pablic, as a duty incombent opon them the glory and worth of Ayurveda and thus regard towards our sacred science. I can cite here two intances in the point, oat of many. As the great Sanskritist Dr. Max Moller took pride in appending the word Bhatt before bis Dame, Dr. Klass of Switzerland and Dr. Kipnis of New York, also exolt in effiziog the Vaidya, Agarvedacharya etc. with their pames. Here in India too there are inpamerable Allopathic Doctors who admire and practite with pride the Ayarveda, amongst them we can mention the name of Dr. P. M. Mahta of Jamnagar. 27. In order to discuss the problem in details, the letter has been opaspally long, for which I big your pardon. Shri Bhavageshwari Pith, ।।ॐ तत्सत् ॥ GONDAL (Saurashtra ) Yours siacerely, 11 sitruuratef: 11 (Rasesbacharya ShriChar3atirtba Maharaj) 22. It followa from this long discussion that it is in the ioterest of the country, politically, practically and economically, to patronize and protect the indigenous system of mediciness Ayurveda. Due to the vant of its recognition and patronage from the State, it has not been able to keep pace with the world going ahead by leaps and boonde, but if it is well protected, its potency to become the part and parcel of the national prosperity, through Dhatavada (Alchemy) and various other scriptoree, can well be realised. 23. The learned people and scholars of the world are inclined towards Ayorveda only because the priaciples, 'propoooded by this scripture, sioce housands of years ago, are even apto this day unflinching, onchanged, non-risky, harmless and noiversally beneficial to the people of any part of the world; whereas most of the established principles of Allopathy prove to be injurions even within a period of 2-4 years, after disastrous experimentation on homan lives. Lookiog through these viewpoints even, making the use of Allopathy limited, 50 far as surgery is concerned, Ayarveda sbould be given prominent place in the treatment of diseases, and the stadies in Ayarvedic sorgery should be encoaraged. This way, within a {cv years Ayarveda will come to the (crefront in surgery and treatment both. 24. The Chopra Cor.mittee appointed by the Goveroment, other investigation commissions, All India Ayorvedic Congress, that came into existence since sixty years and which is ad Inititation as old as the National Congress, its sessions and; workers, leading Vaidys of the country etc., have variously and distinctly babmitted before the Government, the potency and possibilities in Ayurveda, bat the Britishers did not pay attention to them and to-day also our Goveroment mostly ran on by Pleaders and Doctors, have not deemed any daty at doing anythiog in the matter. We had alo, earlier on 7-4-50, after her address in the Parliament at that time, written, a detailed letter, to ope Hon'ble Health Minister, discossing mainly the problem of Gramya- Vaidya?, and also many other problems of Ayurveda. The copics of our correspondence with westero scholars, mentioned herein, are also sent to her frequently and at the very moment.
80 - Message to the 38th All India Ayurvedic Congress, Indore Το From: Saajanya „Sadba - Sagar Shriman Rasashala, Gondal Vaidya Ratna Pandit Shri Shiva Sharmaji DH22-10-52 The President 38th All India Ayarvedic Congress, INDORE (C. I.) My dear learned Brother, Payiog dae honour to the kind regard and insistence from your worthy-self and the brother members of the Reception Committee, in cordially inviting me to this bistotic session of the Maha-Sammelan, I beg excase of your worthy-self and all the fellow-Vaidyas for my inability to attend the session, og reasons of recent indisposition. This session, I believe, is of almost importance and pray, take me to be one of you, with all siccerity, ia whatever you all resolve. It is a glory and good fortune of Agarveda itaelf and all the Vaidyas of India that this seasion is beiog held ander your able leadersbip and I can foresee, with confidence, the glorious fatare of Ayurveda through yoar clever gaidance. It is a matter of no small regret that under the present democracy the Agarveda has been gradually pat to more and more sorry plight, unseen evea under the British domalo. It foretelle nothing but the stark misfortope of the country and the people both. The main reasons that can be alloded to this wortening position can be sammed ap in the atter igaorance of our admioistrators in matters Ayurveda and their complete inclination towards allopathy, in the parauit of imbibiog westero coltore to the regretial neglect of our own – the glory that was ladia. I have many often proclaimed publicly as well as in my correspondence that all the efforts of the Govero ncot at trampliog down the Ayurveda and its activities, are all to little or po purpose, becapte 90 percent of oor pololace rely firmly on it and seek ultimate solace in it. Hence, I wish that this Sammelan aborld convince the Goveroment that lack of Vaidyas are ready at the call of yours-their noble leader to endarc and
